what is this sensor

im trying to figure out what the sensor is on the back of my motor just above the oil pan by the bell housing its round i belive it has two wires coming out of it, im missing this sensor my dog took off with it and i cant find it.
the motor is a 2000 2.4l is this the knock sensor

Crank Position Sensor? If so, I also screwed mine (pulled the engine, and missed 1 wire . . . lol) Engine started fine without it and didnt even throw a code . . . mabey i jsut got lucky?

its round about 1 inch i diameter and has a bolt going straight through it. Im confused if it 's the crank positioning or knock sensor, theres two sensors in the block one in the front middle at the bottom of the block held in buy a 10mm bolt when thats not hooked up the motor wont fire, found that out the hard way 2 years ago.
The one at the back im not sure what will happen if it's not hooked up the motor is a fresh rebuild and I just don't want to hurt anything the first time i fire it up.

sounds like knock sensor.. and engine will work fine without it
