Ok. first thing, i tried searching these things. couldnt find anything. so heres the first thing. i have a 2001 5speed cavalier with the 2200 ohv. After i get passed about 30-35, i hear a kind of whistling noise, when i let off the gas, it goes away. i dont know if its normal or what. new to cavaliers. second thing, when i let off the clutch (slowly) I can feel a kind of shutter in the clutch pedal, ( no matter how much gas is given, i tried testing it with different rpm take offs) cavy has 89k on the clock. and lastly, i found a post about this, but i need more clarification as i would like to fix it myself. But at slow speeds, around 10-20 and below when i turn it makes a click sound and i feel it in my steering, (doesnt sound like cv's ) but im not sure, almost feels like the steering wheel sticks then breaks loose, I was thinking it was maybe the steering join that connects to the steering shaft, i am unsure tho, any help is appreciated. thanks much
no one has a clue? on any of the two problems?. let me break em up
1. after 30 or so, whistling sound from car when i am giving it gas
2. When im going slower than 20mph and turn, i can feel a click in my steering wheel, almost like its sticking.
Once again, any help is appreciated, even if its a, "i dont have any idea, try this site" or something, thanks
1st off, the clicking noise is your steering intermediate shaft. You can either get a new shaft from GM or GM has a lube kit to get rid of the noise/feeling. You will have to remove the shaft to do either. The shaft is pretty simple to remove. It runs between the steering column and the rack and pinion.
WIthout hearing the whisle noise, I cannot give you a deffinite answer. The way you describe it it sounds like throttle body whistle. Some is normal.
