I just put a new pump in my 2003 cavalier with 70,000miles on it, and I'm a lil pissed off. How to ensure this one will last longer???
Thanks!
Cheers,

keep the tank full and the fuel filter clean
Never let it run out or really close to out. Fuel filter is also a likely culprit.
Im not sure if the riding on half tank is legit but there could be some truth in it. Besides that, dont ride on fumes and add a fuel cleaner every 6-8 fill-ups (depending on where you live).
...They just HATE it when you ...POINT - LAUGH - then DRIVE OFF AND AWAY-!...
Don't let your tank get under 1/8 level, and change your fuel filter every 6 months or so. I've replaced 2 fuel pumps on my cars in the last 20 years and never gotten under 200,000 miles on them. The in tank pumps use the fuel to cool them, and they work a lot harder when the level gets on the low side. When the tank is full, the pressure from the higher fuel level makes it easier to pump and keeps the pump cooler.

I'm wondering the same. How much power can I make before the FP cant keep up anymore. Right now it runs the 3400 (supposedly 180hp 205tq) extremely rich. So I bet it'll support around 225-250hp land.
But yeah, like said.... running out of or extremely low on gas is a very bad thing.
Also, I dont know about anyone else... but I'm kinda particular on where I get my gas from. I try to only buy gas from somewhere that is supplied by Marathon Oil Co. I know this narrows it down to the following. Speedway, Marathon... and I'm under the understanding that Wal-Mart gas stations are also filled by Marathon. At least the one here by me is.
I had just put some Valvoline high mileage fuel cleaner maybe 2-3 tanks before it broke... I'm a little scared of using this stuff again! BUt yeah, I've always had a habit of trying to get the most out of EVERY tank, until it was only fumes....

The fuel pump is kept cooler by the fuel surrounding it... if you run it on fumes, it can overheat and die.
Mine died just as I pulled into the gas station on fumes... I filled up, not knowing the fuel pump was already dead... went to start it - dead silent. I had to drop the tank, which was FILLED with fuel, to replace it. Bah!
Can a fuel pump about to die cause the fluctuating idle with an Ecotec? Everytime I press the clutch the idle will waggle between 500 and 1200RPM.
