Theft System Light

i just changed my rear speakers, and for some reason now my car wont start. i have no clue how i could have done anything to mess with the theft system. anybody know how to get this light to shut off so i can start the car again?

did you unhook the battery before you took out the speaker? my only guess is your care thought you were stealing them ahah...the only think i know you can do is call a dealership. i think it has to be done there.

great. just my luck. ive changed about a thousand sets of speakers in all kinds of cars, but when i change my own i get a theft system light. isnt that special? anybody else know of any solutions besides calling the dealership, or is that all i can do?

Sad to say but no. You can try disconnecting the battery for 30 mins. or pull the ECU/PCM fuse in the fuse box while the keys in the ignition (but doubt it'll work. known for erasing engine light codes)

Dealer is best option

You speakers did not cause the light to come on. Something else happened. Does the car crank (not start, but just crank)? Probably does. You need a pass lock sensor which is part of the ignition lock cylinder. You will have to replace the cylinder, code the new cylinder to the key, relearn the bcm for this cylinder.

im having the same problem as tbag, theft light, so just go buy a new pass lock sensor and replace the old one. how do i get the bcm to "relearn" the new cylinder. also does it matter for a 99, does it differ from some other years.
