Clutch Master Cylinder... Ecotec

can anyone explain why my master cylinder (on the firewall above the brake booster) would become and make my clutch pedal rock solid? I pressed it and the master cylinder snapped off the firewall.

So now I need to replace it but I am wondering why this happened? thanks!

man I had the exact oppisite happened. mine was like a feather and it came to be that my slave cylinder/throwout bearing was ripped. pray it's not that. if it is I know of a cheap way to get one. as far as the master cylinder for the clutch. it isn't to bad to replace. I think it was only like 90 bucks and not to hard to replace. I replaced mine think it was the problem but it wasn't it was the slave cylinder. so now I have two.

my throw out bearing is brand new and my slave cylinder is fine, when you press the cluth in the master cylinder actually moves out... the piston mechanism inside is seized

ekk sounds like the piston seperated from the cylinder. I have heard that people had the piston slip out of the cylinder so it's not sliding so it may have to be replaced. I have a perfectly good one. if you needed it bad and are strapped for cash. I can let it go for 50 bucks plus what ever shipping is.
