engine pulses

I own a 2001 2.2 L Cavalier. Its a 5 speed. The car has 115 000 KM .( 100 000 miles) The car engine has started to pulse quite hard in most gears. Its most common in 3, 4 and 5 th when on a straight or down grade with my foot off or slightly on the gas. It only happens in the lower rev's for that gear. In all other instances the car engine/power train is flawless. The is no check engine light alarm.

My friend disconnected the MAP sensor producing a check engine light but the problem completly disappeared and the car runs great. My mileage had remained at 7.4 KM/100 L with the sensor off. When a new MAP sensor was installed the same problem came back. He verified the sensor had its 5V power supply voltage. He also checked the vacumn lines. The wiring all looks good. He said the sensor seems stuck at 4.7 V output no matter what load is put on the engine. He says it probably the power train control module.

Does the trouble shoot make sense ? Any other ides ? Can I run my car without this sensor since my milage is still good ?
