My 5 speed Getrag started whining at about 67,000 kms (about 42,000 miles) and I changed the fluid in the transaxle. I put in Dexron III ATF, just like my owner's manual and the Haynes manual said. Gradually, the whining is getting more noticable, and I talked to a guy at the dealership, who told me that they've been putting some kind of Saturn fliud in, and it will work better. What's this Saturn stuff? I've only got 3000 kms on the current fluid.
I guess if the dealership bungs my transaxle up, then I can get a new one and I won't have to worry about the whining.
Also, what is the average distance the car should travel before the wheel bearings need attention?
