I have aprx. 40,000kms on my 03 5-speed cav. I was curious if now is a good time change fluids? What brand should I use? Should I use the stuff the dealership would use? Any DIY articles on how to change it???
thanks
50,000kms mark should be perfect time to change youre automatic trans fluid, Its all youre choice what kind of product you would like to use. I just got youre standard pan trans gasket kit & filter. I got good name brand dexron III ATF automatic fluid, Its been almost 25,000 kms since I change it last, No problems yet,
Good Luck on youre choice dude.
How would he change his ATF if it's a manual transmission?

Ban low-performance cars, not high-performance ones.
On the Bob is the Oil Guy website somewhere there is a
recent recommendation for what the Saturn engineers
have made available for your same transmission....
Might be worthwhile to check with a Saturn dealership
to find out more....
There is a "noise problem" this new lube tends to minimize....
OOPs sorry Crazy Dude , I mis typed the wrong info you will need Syncromesh transmission fluid GM Part Number # (12345349). Or you could buy a nice performance oil like lucus or royal purple.
synthetic ATF (mobil 1) is good. needs to match what's specified in your owners manual in terms of certification/grade etc. the getrag takes 1.8L
14.82 @ 97 mph
Newbie here...

No trans pan on a 5 speed. There's a drain bolt at the bottom... and the fill hole is on the side at the rear. It's got a weird bolt head on it...
How much of which fluid?
I hear to use DOT3 brake... but how much of What?

Do NOT use brake fluid in your transmission. It will corrode your gears and your tranny will fall apart in short order. For automatic transmissions I believe it is DexIII, and for manuals use GM Synchromesh fluid or your local parts-store equivalent.

just use syncromesh used it in my eclipse and never failed on me and that thing was hauling ass with turbo and nitrous launching and racing ... i wasn't easy on it burnt thru clutches but no problem with the tranny...

If you have a 2000+ 5 speed it uses ATF fluid. Look it up, it does. I recommend B&M trick shift fluid for a 2000+ 5 speed tranny. 2 quarts is what you need.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic Dexron style fluid. Use a full 2 quarts, you are actually safe up to 3 quarts even, but 2 is best. Syncromesh I believe is called for in the Isuzu trannys, Getrags use Dexron III or better ATF.

Fill hole is on the side near the drain bolt, or is it in the engine bay at the rear driver side way down at the bottom? <--I think that's the Hydro Clutch fulid res.
anyone help me find where to put the fluid back in?
