Another wheel bearing post.

Hey guys.

I didn't want to post-jack the other wheel bearing post. I am really getting frustrated with my wheel bearings. In the last year I have had to replace the one on the left twice, the one on the right twice (once was because someone ran into my wheel) Now the one on the right is bad again! </rant>

I have used the same brand for all the repairs (which I will not be using this time.) I beleive the brand is SKG, but I am not sure. I know its a 3 letter acronym. Every one of these SKG ones have had the seal come off early, thus allowing dirt and crap to get in and wreck the bearing.

Is there anything that could be wrong with my car (2000 Cavalier z24 Auto) that could be causing these seals to wear out prematurely? Can anyone recommend a different brand to use to replace the right bearing?

Thanks.

Got my rears at RockAuto. I can't quite remember the name, but I had recognized it as one from a good company. It wasn't SKU,SKG, etc.

Currently the best quality for wheel bearings is Timken....

You may want to try them....

SKF is the other.

When you put the seals in be sure and clean the spindle with some sandpaper steel wool, and put some grease around the rubber part of the seal. I had my spindles off last month and the seal is still in good shape.

make sure you are tightening them to spec if you didn't already know...

I replaced one on mine and we didn’t have a torque wrench at the time and it went bad in like 2 weeks…

Hey Guys,

Thank for all the responses. I ended up getting an AC-Delco one through a dealer, well my mechanic did with a nice discount. I will ask my mechanic about torquing next time I talk to him, but I am sure he did it correclty, since he mentioned that it could have been the problem with the first one. I hope this is the last time I need to have a bearing replaced for a long time.
