Ok well its not like BROKEN, but its come off and i cant open from the outside, which could become a problem once i get subs and stuff, heres a pic to give you an idea of wat im talking about.
The little pole thing is supposed to go inside the other circle i drew, problem is its lose, it just falls down. I tried Crazy glue but bonding plastic to metal isn't easy. And i did use my dremel to scuff up the metal to try and get it to adhere better but no luck. Please help. Need ideas.
You could go to the wrecking yard to get a replacement one.
its not that simple though, cuz the latch shown is connected to the lock on the trunk, its connected by a cable thing. Id have to replace all of that AND get a new key for it i think. theres gotta be a way to attach it again. Its not like snapped and junk, its just come off. Looks like Crazy glue would hold it but it dont attach to metal and such. Just wondering if ma;ybe theres some other bonding agent that would hold Plastic to metal rather well.
bumpity bump, need an answer does anyone know?
is there anywhere you could screw it on????
You could try using zip ties to run around the whole unit, I would just go through the two outside holes where the cable is secured, then for even a a little more strength you could crazy glue the zip ties to the outer casing of the latch. Just looked at mine and seems like it could work. I had a similar problem with another car I had owned. It was this way when i bought it. the previous owner had just used black tape around it and it held as long as i owned the car.
Good luck
Aah zip ties. great idea, ty.
Ok one the latch the places you have circled control the latch itself. If you look there is a hole in the actual latch to the right of ur circle, on the mechanism to open it there should be another hole. Use a small machine c=screw and nut to hold it in place. Factory uses a plastic screw. Did it on my 97 and my 94 z's works great
hope it helps
I had the same problem, and found that I couldn't fix it just with the factory plastic screw (or replacement) because the plastic was bent. I used a tie around the metal behind the entire locking mechanism and across the top of the plastic part. This provides extra reinforcement and prevents future 'lock-outs' from happening when you've got a trunk full of stuff and it gets knocked.
I just replaced the mechanism a couple of weeks ago. Not dificult at all. Plastic part is sold with cable an all you do is un clip the old and install the new one. Takes about 15 minutes.
I'd replace it like Peter said, but if you insist on gluing, try
This to That Just select what you need to glue and it tells you what to use (it recommends JB Weld BTW).
whats the part called to make it easier to buy a new one? this something I have to get at a dealer or autzone by some luck has it in stock?
Go to your local GM/Pontiac dealership and ask for part number is 22621087 and the description is Cable Lock Cylinder
I'll bump this one up since I just encountered the same problem.
Except, the back seat release doesn't work anymore.
So basicly, anyone got a trick to open up the trunk without going from the back seat ?
Don't need to rekey it to replace the latch, only if you have to replace the keyhole...
@Blades, um... Don't know how to put this... but you're gonna have fun w/ that one.
Short of breaking something, you're not going to be getting in very easily.
