I need some help... i was stopped by the cops yesterday 'cuz i am driving around with my high beams on...
my DRLs don't work & my low beam driving lights don't work either...
I spent about 40$ on a new DRL relay and mini fuses for the L & R low beam headlights and still no lights go on...
only my high beams work...
what should I do next... all the bulbs are new....
any suggestions... please...???
Carlo
Replace the bulbs.
The drl is controlled by the passanger side low beam. When you blow the lowbeam on that side, you wll have that problem.
yes but they are all brand new bulbs.... how is that possible....
-manufacturer's defect?
-touched the bulb?
-etc
-etc
just get a donor bulb and see what happens.
if u didnt fix ur problem i had a similar one turns out that whoever owned my car b4 me knew @!#$ all and tried to half ass wire it up ... and as a result i had no lights but high ... well i had low but it was dimmer on the passenger side. also i have a friend who works at a car lot and he just got a 2000 sunfire and the BCM is bad in it we had to replace that cuz the lights were all screwy and have GM reprogram it for teh car... try the ladder of the 2 first.. both are pricy tho ... sorry to hear u are having these problems...
Ah... a botched DRL disable. Gotta love that.
check your grounds. our cars run the lights by a switched ground, and a permanant positive. i just fixed mine. my passenger low beam was out. the wiring for the head lights can easilly get brittle and carck. just trace the wiring back
check your switch too, they suck in our cars, easy fix to change the switch, cheap too
check the DRL/Low beam resistor, its located behind the passender headlight, mounted on the bumper mount. Its just beside the horn, if that is burned out or missing no low beams at all..

Hey,
When mine had this problem, it tunred out to be green rot.. They got brittle and cracked, right below the washer fluid bottle. Too much spilt washer fluid caused the green rot. Got it all fixed up tho!!
Hope this helps. Keep us posted

This happened on my 98 Cavalier. I had to unwrap all the looming for the headlights and found out that the one wire had melted and broke, so I had to splice it back together. Problem solved.

Well maybe yall can help me out...my drl starts flashing when I put the car in gear. The low beams wk but when I put the high beams on the passenger wks but the drivers is out. What could be the possible problem there? Also if you had a ABS light that was on would that cause the drl not to wk correctly?
first check your fuses
if not that then replace the bulbs
if that doesn't work check the harness and wires for damage.
then if still nothing check in your DRL relay its located in the fuse center
finally if all else fails replace the switch.

Bringing this back from the dead...and bringing myself back from the dead too since I haven't posted here in a couple years probably. Just thought I'd mention I had this problem too. Start the car, release the emergency brake and drl's should come on. Instead, the light in the cluster and headlights blink about 8 times, the service light comes on. DRL's don't work, low beams don't work, high beams and everything else work fine. Do some troubleshooting, check for voltage at headlight harnesses. Voltage is good so I'm getting power to the lights, but nothing's happening. Must be a ground problem or pretty much has to be the bulbs. Check the bulbs themselves for continuity between each connection tab. One good, one bad. Check the other bulb, same thing. Filaments looked alright I thought. Decided it had to be the bulbs since the test doesn't lie. Went to the store, got 2 new Silverstars to replace the old Silverstars and bingo, works like a charm.
How the hell did both of my low beams burn out at the exact same time? Had to have been some kind of surge or something to cause that. Hopefully it doesn't happen again since those bulbs are not exactly cheap. After checking each bulb closely again, i could see that the filaments were indeed broken. Looked like they'd overheated and melted. Oh well, wait and see time.

Did you touch the bulb with your fingers? Because the grease on your hands causes the bulbs to burn out within a few hours of fitment. So this could have been your problem.
(99 - Sunfire - Red - 2200)(95 - Cavalier z24 - Purple - 2.3 quad four)
I had the same problem.
Changed the bulbs - nothing.
Went to dealership for new relay - parts guy informs me it is not the relay. many 95-03 will experience a short under the battery tray.
I let the dealership take care of it. Didn't cost much ($30 - 50) and they knew exacltly where the frayed wires were as opposed to me tracing and stripping wires while removing body parts. I think the inner fender has to be partly undone to reach the affected wire.
good luck
so im having the same problem... should i replace the switch first which is 68 bucks from oreillys or track some wires? and what im reading here it could be any were from the battery tray to the relay? because i have every light come on as well brights only when you hold the switch then off... whats the route to go?
Always check the easy stuff first then if that fails buy the new switch

Alexis: Dustin, you're ghey, lol. I am better. I have tits, and tits rule all.
well... i took the tape off the wiring from headlight to headlight and there was a splice, looked factory but not sure, they spliced an orange wire coming from the drivers side to a pink wire running both ways??? is that standard on all cavaliers or is that a problem

That may be true, but that only applies to 95-99 cavies and 03-05 sunfires in this case as I believe they are the only ones with separate high and low beam bulbs. The 2K-2K5 cavies have a single 9007 bulb that would burn out both the high and low beam if the glass was etched/compromised due to being touched (though not in a couple of hours... maybe in a couple of weeks or months).

by all means... correct me if I'm wrong... but..... if there is electrical tape there... it isn't factory. (at least I've never seen it).
