I heard about this the other day, apparently it's a "secret". NOT ANYMORE!
This is what you do: You take some Instant Rice, and dump it into your throttlebody while revving up the engine. It's supposed to clean out your engine better than seafoam, or anything for that matter (Note, this can only be done if you have no catalytic converter, or if you are running an open header).
Once you do this, the rice apparently breaks down/soaks up all the carbon deposits and random crap that forms up in your engine, and spits it out the exhaust. The gain in power can definately be felt, he said.
So, what I want to know is if this actually WORKS, or if it's just a ricer myth and you can seriously screw up your engine from it.

Dear God I hope you are kidding ! If not put the hood down and back away from the car slowly ! And never open it again !
Your kidding right ?
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
No, seriously, this is what the guy told me. He said he's done it before multiple times with success.
*shrug* I was a little skeptical so I decided to ask the jbo.
YOu should ask to see him do this in real time in front of you.
^^^^^ agreed. if he's done it plenty of times, then he shouldn't have a problem doing it again.
Goal is to make my N/A Auto faster then a manual without doing engine internals
Thats a great idea! Hell I'll even pay pal the money for the rice as long as you provide pics of this dumb ass destroying his engine! It'll be worth every penny!
And just so you do know, NO DO NOT DUMP RICE IN YOUR THROTTLE BODY !!
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
now if you really want a clean engine you have to get zatarains thatll do the trick
haha, ok, I'll see if I can borrow a video camera, and the next time I see him (probably this weekend) I'll ask him to do it for me. The video WILL be uploaded if he does. :-)
I'll split the paypal with ya terry. I wanna watch this as well!!
j
Deal ! this should be good !
Rice in the engine ! What a Goober !
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
Hmmm.... Is this rice cooked or raw? Either way, isn't rice mostly starch, a form of SUGAR?

haha!
Spice it up with zatarain's.
I thought the ricer secret was 10cent resistors from radioshack sold on ebay for $20.00 a piece.
DO NOT DO THIS. But pay for video of the other guy doing it...
Since I drive a domestic i prefer the instant potatoe flakes to rice cleaning methods.

I talked to my friend and he said he might be able to do it this saturday. I'll upload it to putfile or something when I get the video made.
Stay tuned.
Reminded me of cleaning jet engine turbine blades with walnut shells-fed in as the engine was running.
I see form the specs here that RICE HULLS are no longer approved in some engines
http://www.dennisdawson.com/industry.htm
Interesting but I would not try it in any of my engines

Wait a second Org. If this guy does it with Rice Pilaf then there might be a chance! Rice Pilaf is not as dry as regular white rice! But it has to be long grain to pick up that extra gunk!
Don't believe me, go to the rice pilaf website where it gives you recipes and look at the last one where it says "for a cleaner TB and Engine.........."
(sarcasm)
my god this is a stupid thread.
GO PATS!!!
Seeing as your in your in the kitchen any way look under the sink. Now what you want to remove that carbon build up is Ajax cleaner. Not only will it remove carbon it will get rid of that nasty Ricer bath tub ring and leave your engine smelling Ricer fresh too!

Thats Him Officer The WICKED One.

I've heard of this before, we definitly dont do it to our F-16 engines...
kinda reminded me os something.... guy decided he wanted to drop a screw into a running 350... that i'd just got done building. long story short... wel, look for yourselves.

top of the piston, where the exhaust valve decided to throw a party.

i'm assuming this was done once the piston turned sideways and was smacked with the connecting rod that was still attached and rotating

a side by side of this piston with the one i pulled out of my ln2 rebuild

shattered aluminum...
JBO Stickers! Get yours today!
HOLY DAMN!!!!
I guess he should have put the air filter on sooner.

Was he tuning it or what?
j
I don't think tuning involves putting a screw into the intake.
same with the rice......
I hope your just bad at telling jokes or something.
