first off this is a 1996 sunfire, 2.4L 5spd
ok on my way home last night, i started to hear wat i thought was a rod bearing knock, kinda sounded like the chattering os an ABS vavle assembly while sliding. i went to start it this morning. it fired once, then immediately shut off. i cranked again and it sounded like it had no compression. this was at 7:30AM. I went to work, came home round 5-5:30, went to fire it up, again, fired once, shut off, sounded like no compression. i thought maybe my timing chain went,. so i pulled the top few bolts from the timing cover, and watched teh cams, they turn, dont seem/sound like the chain is skip teeth. wat i'm thinking is maybe my oil pump took a @!#$ (i was told the stock 2.4L oil pumps were junk. do these things have a low oil pressure fail safe (shut off) if so, could this thibng not be buuilding enuff oil pressure while cold? and maybe the PCm is noticing it dosn't have enuff OP and shuts it off? im in a real bind on this and need help FAST
On GMs the fuel pump relay is wired threw the oil pressure sending unit. If your oil pressure goes below 6psi, your fuel pump relay will shut off.
Also a rod bearing knock will turn into a no start after the engine seizes up.
