So It started last week and misfired a very tiny bit in the higher speeds around 55-60 mph. Then it started to get worse... Now today when it idles, it does so at 1000rpm(which is normal for me) but dips to about 600-700 rpm every few seconds. (Feels like its going to stall) And When I try to accelerate it like convulses and accelerates then stops accelerating then accelerates then stops....etc. I think it is probably the spark plugs or spark plug wires. Any ideas?
Can someone please help me? Its my only car unitl the Supra gets out of the shop...
It would be best to first have it scanned to see if there are any codes.
It's the cheapest fixes first:-
You could change:-
1. Spark Plugs
Try it again and if no improvement change the
2. Wires
3. But is the Fuel System OK?
When was the fuel filter last changed?
I have seen a bad ignition module destroy a coil and still show NO Codes
so it could be
3. Ignition Coils
4.Ignition Module
As you probably know, you can throw a lot of money at a car without fixing it, unless you diagnose it first.
Good Luck

A few people have been having this same problem (me being one of them), I'm in the process of eliminating the small expenses first. I've already changed the plugs and wires, and replaced my air filter... It has helped out a little bit, but every now and then my car will misfire like an atom bomb went off or something... next thing I'm gonna do is replace the fuel filter and see what that does... I'll be sure to repost the results...
Just a side note... I have taken my car to the chevy dealership when my Check Engine Light is on because of this problem, and they ran the whole computer check thing, and my car didn't give off any codes as to what was wrong... SO,,,,, if you want to take it to a dealership and get it scanned for $90 or however much they charge, don't be dissapointed if you don't get any results out of it...
The only thing the dealership did for me was reset my computer, and It solves the problem temporarily.... I've read here in the posts that an easy way to reset your computer in the car is to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery for a while... there is no set time, some cars are different from others... some take 15 minutes to reset, some take a few hours... So before you go to bed or something, just disconnect your battery and hook it back up in the morning...
As I said though, this is just a temporary fix that has worked for me...
I had the same problem i thought it was the spark plugs or the boots,
but i ended having a bad valve in #4 cylinder ! Do a compression check
accross all the cyclinders to make sure your compression is ok !!!
Benny, lots of times when
baffled, it turns out to be
water in the gas tank....
ive been having the same problem. i had it scanned and nothing came up so im gonna change the plugs AGAIN and if that doesnt work maybe get a new IDI Cover which isnt cheap
I had this problem recently. I went through wires, gas filter, and a coil until finally my mechanic decides to check the plugs (that I installed last year). The plug tips seemed worn and gapped wrong, according to him. A new set of platinum plugs went in (My mech told me not to gap them...they are ready to install). That seemed to lick my misfiring problem.
i had this in my LD9 9for those who dont know that the 2.4L) ended up being my coil cover and my iggy module. wen u get the cover MAKE SURE YOU GET WHITE ONE!!! black one es el junko. i got a KEM coil cover and a KEM ignition module and my miss was gone and car had gobs of power again
It was the spark plugs for anyone wondering.... I got NJK ones.
Okay,
Well, after attempting to do the fuel filter myself and screwing it up... I ended up paying $600 for the complete fuel line, filter, and pump to be replaced in hopes that this would solve this crappy misfiring problem that I have been having... and yet, it is still here... So now I am moving on to the ignition coils to see what happens... any recommended brands???
that's awsome to hear benny

don bother with the COILS, they usually dont go bad, try the coil cover first, it's cheaper, and plugs
Thanks for posting the answer, glad your car is fixed.

Well, I found a nice deal for the ignition coils and ignition control module much much cheaper than what the dealership was gonna make me pay... So I'm gonna go ahead and just put that on along with new spark plugs and wires again... We will see what happens...
