2003 Cavy 5-speed. About 6 or so months ago, I was getting my tires rotated and balanced and when I watched the guy back my car off the lift, I noticed my reverse lights didn't light up. Checked the bulbs and they were fine, replaced the back-up switch and that cured the problem. Well, last night, leaving my friends wedding reception, I noticed that nothing was lit up behind me as I was backing up. I haven't checked the bulbs yet, but since BOTH of them are out again, I'm assuming it's the switch again. My question is, what could cause that switch to burn out that quickly. I already thought it was odd for it to go out already considering my car's an `03, but for the replacement to be out after only 6 or 7 months makes me wonder if there's something else wrong.
Any ideas?

Water leaking into the plate/'PONTIAC' combo sign. Been going on in my '96 2.2 for quite a while now. I load up the socket with bulb grease before installing a new bulb. One of these days, I'll scavange a used lamp system off a busted 'Fire and replace/seal the bastard up.
Where is the switch located? I have the same problem, no reverse lights but the bulbs are fine
On the side of the transmission. these are known to go out. a flaw from GM. I already have had mine replaced twice so far. you have to remove the driver wheel to get to it.

New Picture comming this summer.

I was able to get to mine by putting the car up on ramps and sliding underneath. As for it being a GM fault, do you mean the part burning out or the electrical system of the car burning the switch out? I ask because the replacement I bought wasn't a GM part (re: AC Delco), it was GP Sorenson.
I ordered one from my job today though.. it's still under warrenty. When I replace this one, I'm gonna slab some die-electric grease on the connection. I washed my engine/transmission block recently and that may as careful as I was, water still may have fudged it up.
