hey guys. I got a problem with my head lights, when i turn my driver's lights on there fine, when i put my low beam on it's good, when i push it in again for highbeals it works but when i let it go my low beams come back on. Sometimes i can see the blue high beam light coming on right quick in the dash. It's like the handle won't stay there, it wants to go back. what could be wrong. thanks.
It's a 2000 pontiac sunfire. se. 2.2l
pull it and they'll stay on
I would bet u will probably end up replacing the headlight switch once the low beam lights will not work at all. What is happening is the contacts in the switch are wearing out making poor contact. As long as u have both but ,can deal with the small delima let it ride.If u get to where u have no low beam hdlgts replace the whole switch and u will be fine.I hope this helps.
That headlight switch is kinda expensive to have replaced too. Not so bad if you do it yourself, but having someone do it for you cna cost a lot. I had to have mine done in my 97 cav last year. That and the lighter getting replaced cost me 450.
I have the same problem with my 96, and I was wondering if anyone could give me instructions for changing the switch myself. It would be greatly appreciated.
Take off the top of the column (pull up, it's just two snaps). Get a 7mm socket, take the top two screws out. Take the bottom three bolts out, and the whole column cover will come off (you may have to wrestle it around the ignition switch cover). Use a 7mm box wrench and you can get the two front bolts out of the switches. Then they pull out. If you want to make it easier, take off the wheel... but it takes more effort and tools.
I go to the wrecker for parts like this... $20 should get you a switch. I know the intermittent wiper one is around $20 brand new... but the "multi-function switch" for the headlights, signals, cruise control is quite expensive.
