Z24 2.4L questions..
Sunday, May 14, 2006 7:57 PM
I'm picking up a '98 Z24 in a couple days.. just wondering if I should have any heads up on the engine? I looked at it and it seems to be running in good condition, and no oil in the coolant or anything telltale.

Also, what is the oil capacity and filter used on that engine, just wondering because I'm too lazy to look it up at the store, and I have a 33870A filter lying around.

Damn, it's not. #3506 for the oil filter.

I figured it'd be the same, because it's been that 3387A number for all my other chevys.

Can anyone tell me anything to watch out for ?

If it hasn't been changed yet, replace the water pump.

what is mileage?????? water pump is not a small or easy job on the 2.4 weak point of that motor are low motor mount(torque mount) coil housing egr cleaning every 45k or so same with oil/air separator and the king of all weak point of the 2.4 oil pump its weak and under powered for these cars
oil is 4 quarts with filter change

220000 kilometers on the motor.

Thanks for the info.

Oh yah, oil/air separator.. it doesn't have a PCV or whatever, eh.

What other cars have this particular motor in them?

This is what Wikipedia says, but I think that, at least in J's, it was used until halfway through 2002.
1996 - 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24
1996 - 2001 Pontiac Sunfire GT
1996 - 2001 Pontiac Grand Am
1999 - 2001 Oldsmobile Alero
1997 - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu
