what should i do?

I dont know if this belongs here but i gottapost this to see what you guys think... so i was at this crazy party the other week , i purposely parked my cavi away from all the other cars. Sure enough the cops show up,about 5 cars all together 2 cars and three SUV's, anyway i come out to leave and take my buddy home and he notices the moon light is bouncing off of the quarter behind the driver side door a little weird, i run my hand along it and sure enough there is a giant dent in the side(about a $3700 dent), i immediatley ran back inside to see who was at the party that had a white car we couldnt really think of anyone but the cops, and yesterday i was at work and i was talking about how the dent occured and two of the girls i work with said the saw the cops back into my car and take off, so my question is what should i do should i try to go after the cops and if so how? I already got the estimate and called my insurance company and they are paying for it.. Sorry about the rambling just wanted to explain what happened, ill try to post some pics later on if i can. Any help would be great thanks.

You should of called the cops right away and made a report before you even moved the car. its gonna be hard to prove anything now that you moved it. Go past the police station and talk to a supervisor ( SGT or better ) explain the problem and see if they had any cars that would have matching damage done to it. If you got paint transfer so did the cop and if this police force shairs cars where the individual cops don't take them home then you can bet the next guy that got that car would have reported it.

Waiting longer is only gonna screw you worse.

Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.

For sure I would go to the cop station and make a report, Cause more likely if their is any paint marking on youre car, Then its easy to match it up with the cops vehicle, If nothing working out, Then insurance company.

i did go to the police station and file a report the next day, but at the time i didnt know that it was a cop that hit my car, i was just told recently that it was the cops, it just sucks because cops enforce the laws but they themselves dont always obey them i thought they were supposed to be the standard.. do you guys think i can get anything out of this yet??

If your insurance is paying for it, then they should take the responsibility to recoup the money for the damage if they feel there is a good possibility to do so. I would talk with them & give them as much information as you can. I would also modify the report you initially filed with the new information. Talk with the girls again & have them explain in detail what they saw. See if they are willing to testify if it will help you. They may say, well I heard blah, blah, blah which is hearsay or they may say yeah it was 11:45 when they backed up & I was standing right there when they hit your car.

It should be easy to find out which cruiser was there that night through dispatch records, etc. I'm sure the cops that were there filed a report on the initial call, too. Your insurance company investigating this will have a lot more results than you going there on your own, but you can certainly help the process by gathering information for them.

Good luck, that really sucks. Let us know how it turns out.
