Rolling over 26k miles--what maint. is needed?

04 cavalier.

the dealer is trying to push all kinds of stuff on me, running upwards of $300 (including transmission flush, coolant flush, etc etc etc). I took it as utter-BS.

When I bought the car, they talked about the tranny being "maintenance free for 100k miles" -- don't know how true this is, there's no dipstick for the tranny.

I figured I could flush the cooling system myself, that shouldn't be too hard. I don't think the tranny should be touched. Spark plugs could be replaced cheaply, but I doubt that's needed. I can do an oil change myself. How about a fuel system flush, or filter replacement or something? injector cleaner?

thanks for the tips, I'd like to keep my car running as well as possible!

Well [M]ATTRESS

The dealer is looking to make some money off of you at the moment. Transmission flush I dont recommend, If youre car only has 26 miles on it? . Usually 50,000 miles youre transmission should be serviced, New tranny oil , Filter. For youre Coolant system, It should be good for 100,000 miles before you need to flush and change the coolant, And with the fuel filter change would be good to do every year, Just to keep youre fuel system clean just buy some fuel injector cleaner 2 times a month. Other then that youre car has routine oil changes every 5,000 miles youre car should be in good shape for a long time.

^^ TRUE. dealerships are bloodsucking leeches... dont go to the dealer for regular maintenance... go get the stuff yourself, or go to a cheap place... tranny fluid almost never NEEDS to be changed, but on higher milage cars, it wouldnt hurt to have a flush. coolant is fine dont even bother till 100,000. fuel filters possibly, but like rich weeks said just get some injector cleaner (dunno bout every 2 months, but id say maybe once every oil change or 2) so it really depends on how much u drive on that in my opinion . 5-6000 miles (limit) for an oil change is whats average, but some ppl get overexcited and do it every 3000 miles... doesn't make a difference if all youre doing is daily to work andaround town and such. other than that there really is nothing.. .like rich said.

DEALERSHIPS = BAD!!
