P0420- Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1):
Catty sensor shot or catty need replaced???

P1406- Manufacterer Control Auxuliory Emission Control:

P0420 is almost always a shot cat... or if you put a high-flow one on, you used the wrong one... or a crappy one. Very common when you put a cat that flows TOO well on these cars, yes they're that sensitive.

I don't know what P1406 is... it's not listed in my 2000 service manual. Might be something that only comes up in the earlier cars.... yours is a 96, judging from other forum posts... (you really should put something in your registry.... like... what kind of car, engine, etc... makes helping a little easier sometimes!)

i get p1406 all the time on and off i have no idea what the hell it is.. more in depth i believe it is egr pintle positon but i have no idea of that either ive switched my egr and it still comes on.. it goes on and off as it pleases quite frequently

sorry about the lack of info i was a member of v6z24 and havent re-entered data after i changed my name.... i was guessing the one code was a shot catty... any suggestions on replacing that...

i would say the first code is 2nd o2 sensor. about 60-90.00 from an autoparts store
i got mine on ebay for 30.00

i wish you had a solution for the 2nd oe my code reader says the same thing which doesnt help much imma try to get it scanned with the tech2 if i ever get a chance
