So ive been having this problem w/my 96' 2.2 cavy and its acting like the starter is out. First things first, car was hesitating(starter not turning over) then would start. So I check all the grounds and the positive leads, all are good. Check all the relays, good. So I check the neutral safety switch, its good. Next I grab a long screw driver and jump the starter, turns but doesnt engadge on flywheel, wierd. So I pull the starter and have it tested, checks out fine. So im stuck, been working on this for a while now and I finally called my friend at the local Chevy dealer to get a second opion. I should have called a week ago cause its a common prob for the cavys. This is covered under a recall, some kind of thermal event that burns up the ignition switch along with some relay. The recall is #02008. There is a number of other recalls as well. Sorry for the long post but maybe this will answer some body elses starting prob.
Well if the starter kicks out and is spinning but the engine won't turn that tells me efed up flywheel / flexplate. Sounds like a tooth may be missing from it.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
