(Since this post is not about an air conditioner that isn't working, I didn't feel it fit in the topic of the "My A/C Quit" thread.)
My 1988 Cadillac Cimarron was converted to R134a about five years ago, and when I got it, I noticed that though the compressor clutch kicked in without a problem, there was no cold air being produced. I bought a can of R134a and a dispenser valve. I checked the pressure on the system and got a reading of about 35 pounds. This falls within the 25-45-pound "Fully Charged" range. I added some anyway, about half the can, actually. The pressure did not increase any - in fact, it fluctuated between 30 and 35 pounds each time I checked it while adding. However, after adding the half-can, I checked the cabin of the car and found that food could probably be kept in it. Is this normal or cause for concern? Perhaps the system was fully charged, but perhaps it wasn't refrigerant it was charged with?
