Ok, Here's the deal. The other day my 97 2.2 cavy was over heating (just a little, about 3/4 the way over) I figured it was the thermostat, so I replaced it. Now it is completly over heating and there is no heat coming from the vents inside. I have tried a 195 thermostat, then a 180. I've flushed the system 3 times (both back flush and regular flush) replaced the water pump and the coolant temp sensor. I've blead the lines for over an hour today so I dont believe there is any air in them. I can not figure this out to save my life. One other thing that I've noticed, the top rad. hose gets very hot, then on the bottom hose the metal part coming from the water pump and the small heater hose both get very hot, but the other hose (going to the bottom of the rad.) is still cold to the touch, even after the car completly over heats. Any advice would help greatly. Thanks
flip your thermostat over, its in upside down
I kind of thought that, but I'm pretty sure I put it in the same way I pulled it out. The spring goes in toward the water pump and the point goes toward the rad. right?!?!?! Please tell me I didnt do something that stupid.
book says spring goes toward engine, if thats not it, i dunno, i'd still try flipping it
Try fliping it. Then run it without it at all! If the top hose is hot and the bottom it cold its not getting to the motor theres no flow. If its not the sat then something is blocking it or its not pumping

Not the thread jack or anything but my cav will shoot up to about 3/4 on the thermostat if i'm idle if I'm moving it stays dead in the middle. Is this ok or should I be concerned?
Ok...Solved it...2 junk thermostats in a row. I went to the dealership and get one, now it works fine. Sucks I had to go though 5 gal of antifreeze (&10 each) a water pump ($22) a flush and fill kit ($15) a coolant temp sensor ($15) a new belt ($25) a new rad. cap ($9) and about $20 in sealant, antiseze, and gaskets to figure it out, oh yea and about 10 hours of work. I am perplexed by the odds of two bad ones in a row.

oh well thats wut happens when you work on cars.. feels good once its all fixed though huh
and the thermostat's spring should always face the engine
for other pp here, another thing that may cause one hose to be hot, and one cold is a bad rad, always check to see how hot ur rads is too, and see where it is hot
