Hey guys! I am trying to get my fuel pump out and I need to know how to relieve the pressure on the fuel line. The book says to it by recommended procedure but I have no idea what that procedure is. I have a 95 cavalier. Somebody help me please!

Here you go:
1. Loosen the fuel filler cap to relieve tank pressure.
2. Start the engine and let it idle.
3. Remove the fuel pump relay from the power distribution block in the engine compartment.
4. Let the engine run until the fuel supply remaining in the fuel pipes is consumed.
5. Engage the starter for 3 seconds to assure relief of any remaining pressure.
6. Replace the fuel pump fuse in the fuse block.
7. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Done.
Awesome! thanks! How much pressure is there tho in the line before that? Can I just cut it or drill a hole in the line to get the pressure out or is there too much pressure for that? This is a junker I don't care about. So could I just drill it or will it explode?

Well drilling involves an electric drill right? The the motor in the drill is not sealed and creates sparkes as it runs. Sparks + presurized gasoline = you lose your eye brows and get a funky new do. if you can just start the thing.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.

+ metal scraping metal could cause sparks.
Releive the pressure the right way!!
Alright, I'll do it the right way. Thanks for the help guys! And where is that power distribution block located? And what does the fuel pump relay look like. I just got this car and I know nothing about this engine. I have a 2nd gen. This 3rd gen is completely different looking. thanks for any help!

I don't have a picture but it's right next to the battery. You can't miss it, the cover says "Fuel Pump" on it so you know which fuse to take out.
