Ok so the other day I'm driving around town, and I notice a weird smell as I'm sitting at a light. I think its something in the area. Drive some more and stop for gas. Get out and I notice the smell is coming from my car. Smells like a dead animal is frying under my car. My friend thinks it smells like burning plastic. I think it smells like some kind of flesh or something. It just smells nasty. Take the car to my shop put it on the lift. NOTHING. exhaust is fine. WTF is that smell? Could it be my catalytic converter taking a crap? Help!
Could be the cat convertor.
Or a squriel crawled up the tail pipe and you roasted him.
does it smell like a rotten egg or similar, if so thats the your cat. silly question but did you reset your computer for the intake? you might be burning rich, that will cause the cat to melt and clog. if it does clog, your car is eventually choke and sputter, but thats an extremely bad clog. ( think the banana in the tailpipe in Beverly Hills Cop)
or you just fried your clutch up a bit
it happend to me once and i had a horrible smell, then i taught myself to drive perfectly all the time and i've never smelled it again. (yea i was young and a newb at a stick so don't say @!#$ bout it!)
every once in awhile my car will smell like rotten fish or something, but it comes out of the blower when my heat is on. I never found out what it was.
if your water pump is leaking and spraying all over your engine block, it will burn it off...making the worst SMELL ever...im assuming you ve checked underneath the engine? so it shouldnt be to hard to miss a puddle....but that could be it
but i pray its not...for your sake haha cause it is the death of most LD9's....

check the exhaust, hit a damned plastic bag once and it wrapped around my exhaust piping and it took forever for all that @!#$ to burn off.
I agree with the burning clutch statement. I've experienced it myself a couple of times doing stupid things, drag launches, etc. It smells like burning flesh because the clutch disc is made from organic material, and when it burns the smell takes a long time to go away.

Didn't know you had to reset the ECU for an intake. Do I just need to disconnect the positive side of the battery for a while?

Pretty sure it's not the clutch. Then again I do have a slave master slowly leaking.
I've checked under the car, everything LOOKS ok, so I have no idea. I'm getting a hi-flow soon so we will see if that has the problem. My only other question is if my cat were going bad wouldn't it throw a code?

Seriously tho a weird sound is hard to describe but a weird smell? Damn near impossible! Take it to someone and have them do a sniff test and see what they come up with. Beyond the dead hookers I don't know what to tell you. Sorry.

well you got an 01 so i don't know what to say. i have a 97 and i get a little bit of a bad fuel-like smell that i think is coming from my cat whenever i drive her hard. performance wise she runs great, but the cat is all messed up, i have pieces broken off and rattling in my muffler!
Well it appears to be gone now. Don't know must have been the hookers I guess.

Burning coolant smells like maple syrup..... mmm..
umm, burning clutch wont smell like dead animal, it will smell like burning brakes, b/c it is basically the same material except with fiber glass type mareial added
never seen (or smelled) a clutch so bad like the time a 350 box truck came in b/c the tranny locked up going 65MPH, the freakin clutch looked like black shredded wheat! lol
It's more than likely the cat. converter. When they get "plugged up" they always smell bad once your car is stopped or parked. Just replace it or break out the insides so it's just a stait through cat., bolt it back up and problem solved.
maybe you just ran over a plastic bag...........
mine has made the nasty rotten egg smell for quite sometime, ive had it checked out at the dealership twice and the shop i work at a few times too.......
