Coolant/water pump problems
Thursday, February 02, 2006 5:18 PM
Hi,

My low coolant guage came on, and the coolant level was low, so i filled up the coolant resevoir with orange coolant. The light went off, then a few days later the light came on again. I topped up the coolant leve again with green coolant this time (apparently I should have used the same color?). Now the coolant level is staying close to the same but the engine is overheating after 15 minutes of driving. The guage goes over 90 and the engine is steaming when I park it. It is definetly overheating.

Any ideas of what should be done next?

Thanks for the help

is the water pump leaking?

My advice would be to take it to a shop where they know what they're doing and let them look at it.
it could be the water pump, or a head-gasket leak.

if you're not sure if its the water pump do a carbon dioxide test in the cooling system.
Negative = you don't have a blown head gasket
Positive = you do have a blown head gasket and test the cylinder head.
