The car: 01 Z24(manual); 2.3HO TB with it's sensors
the problem Ive been having occurs when i start the car after it has been sitting a while (+4 hours). When i start it up and wait for it to heat up a bit, the idle starts to jump 300 rpm from 900 and then drop to 400 rpm and then jumps back to normal, then about 20 seconds later it does it again and it ends up dying. After i start the car again its ok and it doesnt act weird. When i start driving for a while (out of a residential area driving slow and lightly pressing the thorrle lightly, the car seems hesitant just for a coupple of seconds and then it seems its back to normal. once i get going the car its at its normal self and everything is ok. It doesnt happen after a short sit.
you should also know that I changed the sensors for this TB. the ones that came with it werent functioning. i picked up working ones at a junk yard (from a grand am OHC with the LO mani) and it has been on my car and running very well for 3 months untill yesterday. I was thinking that since the sensors i got from the old car was pretty old.. it was almost its time to go out. The problem is that I am not sure if it is the IAC that is causing the problem but it seems like it is. If it is, i will get one from an auto parts store but i dont want to buy one and the car will end up still doing the same thing. I just need to confirm that it really is the IAC that is acting up.
Thanks in advance.
im thinkin if ur sensor is bad that it would set a code, correct me if im wrong. you could prolly jsut pop the hood next time it does that and unplug the sensor if nutting changes then you might have found the prob. i would assume that it would start idling really crappy if it was the iac. have u checked the basics, plugs, boots, filters. u know cheap stuff?
true. I dont have a CEL light so It shouldnt be the IAC. After stumbling through other posts it seems like it could be a problem with the Map sensor, which i will be getting off a junk yard to see if thats the cure. Other than that ill follow your advice, looking into the "Basic" stuff, which i overlooked. thanks
