I did a search on here for "Fuel Smell" and got some good hits but i go a diff Q.
I smell gas only on the driver's side and and in the back of the car ouside only. I dont smell fuel inside the engine bay or on the right side of the car.
Could this be the fuel lines and what should i look for?

Are you sure it is a fuel smell? When my flex pipe in the exhaust broke, there was an exhaust smell. It was very simaler to the smell of fuel.
If you are sure of the smell, trace the fuel lines from the tank to the engine.
did you check around ur injectors or have you installed a new fuel filter lately , pussibly check the fittings
I checked around in the engine bay and could find anything visually worng or any trace of a fuel leak. Did not touch the fuel system at all.
Flex Pipe huh. I have to check on that. But the fule smell was very strong and seems to goaway for a frew hours then come back.
strange...

oh and if it was a fuel leak then wouldn't I feel it more. I get the same gas Mileage and no loss in gas. So then it has to be the exhaust leak.

I had an actual fuel leak and ended up changing all the brake and fuel lines myself.
I did have the time to do it, but for interest, here is a list of what I purchased.
The pipe assembly consists of a Fuel Supply/Return and Vent (3 tubes),2 brake lines and the clips to attach them to the underside of the car. The assembly runs along the driver's side of the car just inboard of the rocker panel, from the LHS of the engine bay to the rear in the fuel filter area.
This assembly will just fit into a 93 2.2 Cavalier, I bought it from a dealers in Ottawa and drove it home. The front of the assembly was behind the centre console and the rear touching the roof over the left rear door.
22566033 Pipe assembly $190.03 Dealer
Steel brake line 25feet $25.00 NAPA
Brake line nuts and pre-made rigid brake lines $25.00 NAPA
+ Brake Fluid
+ 2 Rear flexy brake lines (The fronts had not long been renewed) NAPA
So I spent around $300CAD and some time.
A double flaring tool is required, some of the brake line nuts are metric and others AF.
All the other rigid lines had to be made except those I could find with the correct threads and length, ready made at NAPA
Made for an interesting time.
Have to agree that Winters suck
