was talking to a gentlemen in the chevy service dept the other day and he said that to me....he also, said he would walk the dog with my z...(street race slang)not knowing at the time he had a 92 z24. which at the time i ordered my z in 96 i was initially looking for a 91-94 z in a manual, but to no avail. so i'm gonna ask ,what does everyone think......did chevrolet sorta down grade when they revamped the 3rd gen's,or is this mainly opinion only? lets hear it.

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
mainly opinion.... i read a post like this a day ago, different forum...

Let me know how this sounds when installed. I was talking w/ the owner of a motorsports shop and he advised against installing perf exhausts on 6 and 10 cylinder cars b/c they do not sound good - something to do w/ the odd # of cylinders. I've been curious ever since to hear feedback from the owner of a 6 or 10 cylinder owner.
seems that some old timers find it hard to let go of their past stomping grounds and setups. the owner of said motorsports shop must have never heard a viper, just as the guy in your chevy service dept must have had the walt disney freeze method performed. tell him to watch a few episodes of futurama as he thaws out.
funky bottoms.......YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!

I'm with or without Teske on this one, (depends on which state he is in)
But, anyways, this guy sounds like he's been living under a rock.
I can take a stock V6 Z24 anyday with a stock 3RD GEN Z24 Cavalier.
I've done it before.....
Yes, it's my REAL car. No, it is NOT photoshopped or "this is how my car will look someday". It's the REAL DEAL.
The last real Z24's had the V6. The ones today are nothing but 'badge jobs'.

I beg to differ there--I had a Flowmaster 40 series on my '86 Z24 and it sounded way better than a 4-banger with the same set-up.

Why?
just because it had 2 more cylinders?........ the 3rd gen Z24 is faster and uses 2 less cylinders, so give me a break

no kidding.....the 3rd gen Zs had more HP than their v6 brethren and their stock times are better too. and that doesnt even mention looks.....

wow....some people......
last time i checked, 6 and 10 were even numbers. sure, they might be 2 sets of 3 and 2 sets of 5 for the V design....but so...? not all 6 cylinders are v6s and does he actually think that a performance exhaust on a 10 cylinder is bad??? some people amaze me.
actually if we are basing it of numbers tehn second gens werent true to the name. z28 had 8 cyls z26 6 cyls and z24s should logically have 4....lol

i own both a 99z24 and a 93z24, but I can honestly say that in the 2nd gens the z24 package was much better, just look at the custom hood GM gave the 2nd gens (cowl induction), they also had the 60/40 split rear seat, nicer upholstery, cool gauge package (factory oil pressure gauge) , and various other touches (rear sway bar), all things GM cheaped out on for the 3rd gens. Power wise they are very similar but the v6 is more fun to drive due to the gobs of torque (180ft/lbs) .
the 2nd gen z24 is also lighter even with the v6!
I'd take the V6 Z's over the ones with the 2.4's any day... for one, their all OBD1, which means less hassle with tuning and emissions testing, where applicable. Plus its ungodly easy to throw a $600 3400 in there and have a high 14 second car before you even start to mod the motor. Stock 3400 can handle about 350-400 whp too before it even needs the bottom end opened up. The trans is stronger too. Stock for stock, yeah, the newer Z's win it, but as a project car platform with speed as the goal, I'd take the 1st/2nd gens over a 3rd any day. This doesn't make the chevy service guy any less of a cocky f*cktard for talking smack like that, but the argument can be made in his favor too.

that can be arguable to with the 95 cavy as it is OBD1 too... most of them anyway, mine was
the 3400 is a pretty direct swap in a 3rd gen also.... the 95 OBD1 makes it just as easy as doing it in a 2nd Gen

the Z28, Z24, Z26 has nothing to do with what size engine is in the car or how many cylinders it has. the Luminas back then had a Z34 model. and there is a Z71 truck model made by chevy. i think its the silverado
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
yeah...and lets not forget the Z06.........

Gen 2s had the style down, but Gen 3's were way more efficient all round. Better mileage, more power and about the same torque for less cylinders. LD9 a Gen 2 Z and I think you'd have about the best J never to roll off the factory floor.

would love to find a 92-94 z24 in good condition....love that body style..

its actually only a canadian package. in the states they called it the LS sport because GM didnt feel it was worthy of the z24 name. probably due to the fact that it pretty much WAS just an appearance package
and ive never been a fan of the style of second gens...too boxy for my tastes. although perhaps GM did put a little more love into making the cars special or set apart from their normal stock of cars than they did for the 3rd gens.
^^^^^ i think your the first person who has not said "there was no Z24 in 2003-2005 it was the LS sport". thats awesome.
oddly enough the 2003 Z24 sold great in Canada, then the 2004-2005 Z24 sold like s**t. i guess people figured out that it was the same motor as the base model and decided it's not worth the extra cash. of course only in Canada would people pay $32,000 for a cavalier.

I'd have to agree with the few...
Besides adding foglights and a spolier, and a craptastic 2.4 in it-GM didn't really do much for the Z (and it showed)
Pretty much everyone else had a better "sport" package...
Heck, the 1st gen Zs had their own dash and trim......
GM stopped making decent Zs in 94.......
The 3rd gens were better in many ways...but the Zs just didn't pack anything important....
And with a little work, I've seen both 1st and 2nd gen Zs walk the 3rds with ease....
Even if they weren't beautiful.....
Dave Z wrote:]Heck, the 1st gen Zs had their own dash and trim......
and they had a hatchback version too! damn GM for not making a 3rd gen in hatchback (or wagon) form!
id still much rather have the 2.4 than the 2.8 or 3.1, any day. of course the 2.0L Turbo from the birds would have been cool too.....
GM actually made the engine bays on 3rd gens big enough in case they wanted to put a v6 back in it one day. they just never got around to doing it, though. good thing for us...its why we can put 3.8Ls in there....
I don't know about this candaian only thing... but you when they first started putting Eco's in 3rd gens you used to see cartoonish Z24 badges on them for a couple of years... but maybee the dealers did it..
I used to have a 2nd gen and although I agree that they put more work into Z's back then... I like my 3rd gen more.
