Photos "&" Media? Why both?
Monday, August 27, 2007 7:16 AM
I assume when that "Photos & Media" category was created you didn't expect as many daily postings of just photos. But, now that section is kinda overrun with photos and not a lot of media or videos I think it's time to make a change.

I think it would be great to seperate the two into their own areas. One for photos, and a new section just for other media and videos. I think it would encourage more video postings, which we all love.

I'd like to hear some opinions from moderators, too.

i think its fine the way it is. before this forum was ever created there wasnt much videos posted anyway. if theres not enough vids then why make a seperate forum for it?

Don't want a whole new "forum" for it, just a section on this forum.

Why? I think the biggest reason is because when a person does post up a vid it gets pushed to the bottom of the P&M section in one day because of everyone posting up a new pic of their car freshly washed. I don't think the person with the balls to post up a video gets enough credit or attention because the section is a little too crowded.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Photo section. I think it's great to see a nice looking J cleaned up and shining, but I think it's way cooler to see a J blast down the track with a killer 60' time. Or even a walk around showing what was done. It seems to be a lot harder to hide flaws on video than in stills. You gotta respect that.

It might just be the difference between wanting to see "show" or "go", but the point is still the same. The photo section is too crowded for videos.

if its a good enough video it wont have a problem staying active.. plus just because its on the bottom doesn't mean everyone hasn't seen it, most who look at a post end up not replying..

So...

You're saying since there isn't much "media" or vids being posted, that instead of grouping it with another forum, we should make a forum specifically for vids... that would barely get used?

Logic?

dont think its worth its own section. if people dont post because they thinik people won;t see it, thats their own issue, as manta said, if its a good video people will keep it on the first page. hell something i responded to last friday is still showing on the same page.

when i first joined, there was no P&M forum. people posted all their pics in the exterior forum. that got to be a mess. Dave created the P&M forum not long after. there have been quite a few videos posted. i've posted two, one that got quite a bit of acclaim.

the problem is, it takes quite a bit of time and tallent to make a decent video, one that people will enjoy enough to keep the thread active. it's not something the average person is all that skilled at, or bothers trying.

i like watching vidoes too, they can be quite creative... but there just aren't enough posted to warrant their own section, and creating a new section probably isn't going to entice enough people into making them to really make it worth while.

But at least if you haven't checked the org in a day or two (working) you won't miss the one video that got posted because it fell to the bottom of page 6 because no one else liked it.

no offense, but making a new forum for videos isnt gonna inspire anyone to post more videos than they do now.

like mentioned if it was a good vid they would stay towards the top

looking at the p&m forum it seems like the last thread on page 1 is two days old and the last thread on the 2nd page is five days old. so if you dont get on for 4-5 days then all you have to do is do 1 extra click which would be the same as if you had to click to go into a sub forum

the org just keeps getting lazier

OK. Guess no one wants this. I'm by myself in wanting videos split up from pictures. I'll let this die.

it wouldnt be a bad idea of there was a ton of vids being flooded in the p&m forum but there isnt. thats like making a car part that has no demand.

the reason there arent that many videos posted is because not everybody on here has the technology and know-how to take, transfer, upload, and post video material. Pictures are easy. Having a separate section for videos isn't going to magically give everybody on here the ability to take and post videos. You have to have the right camara and software for it to work well, and not everybody does.

In a way, I agree with the OP... a subforum similar to AG and AAG would in theory, be a good thing... but the thing about theories is that while they look good on paper, its one more forum to moderate and there's quite a few already as is (something that hasn't been mentioned). there's only so many moderators out there to keep the order

However, in the same respect, I agree with everyone else that not everyone has the knowhow or hardware to warrant it and the overall lack of demand. Also, how would such a forum be set up. Would it be a requirement that all vids must be in that forum? None in the photos section as part of the project update thread or would 1 or 2 be OK...

Ultimately, though, it is Dave's decision... If you can present a convincing argument other than "But at least if you haven't checked the org in a day or two (working) you won't miss the one video that got posted"... who knows. it might just happen. Not offering any guarantees, but an possible avenue for which one to pursue.

I think its a bad idea to add the sub forum look what happened to AG when AAG was created it died

One forum is all we need for all the media or it just gets redundant

Just let it die. I already gave in. I'm the only one who wants it, so there's no need to keep posting negative comments on how "bad" of an idea it is.

Besides, I think the bandwagon is quite full as it is.

I just posted 2 videos in there...lol

not everyone is just jumping on the bandwagon.. theres no reason for the subforum bottom line.. atleast right now.. you say let it die but then u post that like u have this brillant idea but since couple people disagree thats the only reason everyone is disagreeing.. not trying to be a ass but its been said.. right now there just isnt a reason for it, now if we had more and more videos flooding our the photo posts i think it would be a good idea, your just ahead of the time i guess with ur idea..
