Ok I know that J's are not the best cars in the world! But I always get people talking crap about them ON THIS SITE! Ok I know everyone has there own opinion but why the hell do you go on a GM ENTHUSIAST WEBSITE if you don't like them ....... I dunno maybe its just me but I'm pretty much sick of it
***Looking for a BLUE 03+ STOCK cavi wing pm me if ya got one you wanna sell***
some people are @!#$ in the head and dont realize ANY car can go fast. all that matters is how fast can you afford to go :p
Lol, I love my car, sure there are some qualities I dislike about it, but honestly it's a fine piece of machinery if I do say so myself.
Lol haha I just realized I put suck instead of sick lol ooops its hard to type on this damn sidekick sometimes and it won't let me edit it
***Looking for a BLUE 03+ STOCK cavi wing pm me if ya got one you wanna sell***
maybe some of us have had them long enough to know better.....
One cannot accept the good things as good without first accepting the bad things as bad.
J-bodies are not nice cars, no matter how you look at it J-bodies are bottom of the food chain. They are inexpensive, they have no resale valu, depreciation on them is insane, they rattle, they rattle ALOT, the aftermarket is decent but nothing to brag about, they are slow, they handle like, even in 05 they still came with drum brakes
why don't we just stick or feet through the floor and Flinstone it, the road noise would be just as bad regardless. The crash test rating sucks, even optioned out they still suck in terms of options, no leather, no heated seats, no power seats, not even adjustable lumber or seat height, no dual zone climate control, ABS isn't standard, power down on one window only, no power up on anything, no one touch sunroof, no real traction control/stability control (our "traction control" on the auto trans doesn't count) rear suspension setup is far outdated, 108 speed limiter because thats as fast they can handle in stock form,
And to all those people out there that saw well the eco is the best thing ever it can handle 1400 hp blah blah blah..... to that I say suck my dick, "it" can make tons and tons and tons of power, but you (noone specific, generally speaching) on the other hand cannot, so shut up.
I bought my silver 04 brand new, the car sucks.... but you know what I love it, so much in fact I bought another 04. Its like having an old beat up pair of shoes that you love, just cause you like it does not mean its any good.
Sorry, got to pick this apart

The original intention for GM was to appeal to the teenagers (cheap car) and to the older folks (cheap car)

Agreed

Rear discs really don't have an advantage over rear drums if the car is originally not designed for performance.

Luxury items. Half the things I can live without. Again, would go against GM's economy standpoint.

Again, all these items would drive the price of the car up into the mid to high 20k range. GM already had cars in that range (N-bodies for example)
Honestly If i totalled my Jbody tomorrow there's nothing else I would buy, at least GM doesn't sell it. Corvette is too expensive, Soltice is impossible to get at the moment unless you pay 5k over list to a stealership and no hard top, the Cobalt is just a heavy cavalier with updated tupperware interior, argueably less sporty and sleek design. I would have to say I would buy another J, but probabally a fire just to be different. And if I had lots of money all of a sudden I might go for the corvette, but Id keep my J because all around its a good car.

My J is a piece of crap
but I love it
almost as much as my other cars.
well i dont know what car you are talking about darkstars, but mine has 1 touch sunroof and ABS was standard in the 95-99 years. and my power windows go up and down...
but maybe i just read your post wrong. and at least j-bodys are diffrent, at least they arent a freakin honda

Well said. People always say "why would you put money into a Cavalier? Why not just take the money and buy a (insert name of expensive sports car of choice here)" It's obvious, not many people have all that money at once or don't want or need the payments. Besides if you did pinch your pennies and wait to afford the "real" car, you'd miss out on all that fun you could be havin' modding what you got! Case in point, you know when you point at that old bald geezer driving that hot Vette and say "WTF is that old f^&*(er doing driving a sports car? (He was the guy that waited).
The J's are a good affordable platform for their target buyers to use as a base to start modding. If your goal is speed, point made, it's probably not the best choice; but, as seen on this site and others, these cars can be made to look pretty dawn good on a shoe string budget.

Your not really picking it apart, your more or less agreeing with everything I'm saying but using the car as being inexpensive as an excuse for being a piece of @!#$..... I can crap in a bag and sell it for $5 or $500, price doesn't matter its still a piece of @!#$.

your doesn't have one touch sunroof, you you have to sit and hold the button the entire time to make it close, same thing I'm talking about with the windows, drivers window you can push the switch down one quickly and it will lower itself the other way, none of the other 3 doors do that and none of the 4 doors will raise themselves with a one tough, you have to hold the button for each window untill its closed, not just a quick touch. One of my 04's doesn't ABS, a/c is standard but not ABS
edit- fixed some crazzy typo's, if I didn't knwo what it was surpossed to say I wouldn't have neen able to read it LOL

Its part of the general vehicle economy, not really an excuse, if you want those options, it will drive the price of the vehicle up taking it out of the econobox class. All of the Big3 manufacturers have the "econobox" line, its just more prevalant w/ GM.

gotta love GM. ABS was standard on J's until 2002. starting in 2003 they made it optional.

What you know about Street Racing anyways? Only what Fast & Furious taught us....
SO EVERYTHING!
There are alot of haters for the J-body, and some of them are on this website.
My personal opinion??? I bought my Sunfire brand new in 2005, ordered from a Ford dealer, LOL I didn't even have the notion to shop for another car first. Why???? Name me one other brand new car you can get for significantly less than 10K, (I paid $9,897 after tax) has the performancet that the J has at that price level, and the style. I know its subjective, but the Cavy/Sunfire (well, the 2 door models anyway) have always had a distinctive look that seperates them from the myriad of Corolla's, Civics, Sentras, and Neons on the road.
Currently #4 in Ecotec Forced Induction horsepower ratings. 505.8 WHP 414WTQ!!!
Currently 3rd quickest Ecotec on the .org - 10.949 @ 131.50 MPH!!!
I always hear people making unnecessary noise about "JBO this..." and "JBO that..."... it doesn't matter WHAT website you're on, there are always haters. Suck it up.
Bottom line, the J-car platform is an econobox car. Some people (myself included) just happen to like 'em, and are willing to dump ungodly amounts of $$$ into them. Some people agree with it, some people don't.
Just like life... everyone's got an opinion... and not everyone else will share the same view on the JBO.

gotta love that road noise. always sounds like the windows are down no matter what
Yea, I never noticed how loud the road noise is until i read this thread thx guys..
*JBO
I like the road noise, it lets me know that my tires are still on the ground. Actually I think it gives it makes it more of a driving experience rather than just cruising around like a luxury car. The one thing about it is you can still dump a whole bunch of money into it and it'll end up being less than buying a "better" car, but im not saying I wouldnt want a camaro z28, or vette or trans am.
