Any propane cavs out there? VLX ???
Saturday, October 21, 2006 1:56 PM
When i was shopping for my 03 cav at the dealership , 3 years ago....the brochure indicated that there was a model of cav that could run on propane OR gasoline. If i remeber correctly, it was called a VLX model.

Anyone out there have one? benefits? drawbacks? what mileage you get? what motor does it use? ecotec?
how do you switch? two gas tanks?

thanks

not propane...CNG (compressed natural gas). they were mostly fleet vehicles (cops, school safety patrol, ....) it uses the 2200. There was a large tank in the trunk for the CNG and it used CNG before gas, automatic switching. if you search around for CNG cavaliers you'll find a lot of info

I may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.

The Ecotec engine is also CNG capable. Most CNG Cavaliers on the road today use the 2200 OHV engine though.

There is an Ecotec... I've seen them. It's the L42, whch is just the CNG version of the L61 Ecotec 2.2L. There's a large CNG tank in the trunk, takes up quite a bit of space. You'll notice the tab on the driver's side filler panel under the taillight.... thats where the fill port is.

Cheaper and more environmentally friendly than gasoline.
