Canceling an extended warranty
Thursday, July 06, 2006 2:27 AM
I think it's about time for me to sell my car.. but that's not the point of this thread...

I got the GM Protection Plan from my dealer when I bought my car.. I'm currently under my 3 year 36k miles factory warranty.

I was reading I can cancel it anytime before my factory warranty is up and get a full refund.. I'm just wondering if anyone has done this before..

I'll stop by the dealer later today when they open up and try it out.. I plan on trading the car in, and I don't see no since in losing more money because most dealers around here wont give you anything for the extended warrant.y.. (basically it would give me an additional 2400 to put down on a new car, I got raped on my car purchase..)

Thanks
Larry

you need to contact the company that holds the extended policy , and if its never been used you should get it all back

and since they have been paid you get the money back

They canceled it for me, refunded me 50% of the difference saying it got prorated, however I'm still under the factory warranty..

pretty stupid if you ask me.. it should be prorated from the end of the 3yr/36k mile mark since i cant even use it yet, and stil have to option to purchase it before then had I not got it..

oh well

it cant be prorated....if it was an extended warrenty its only to protects from 36k and up...i would fight it for the other half, thats BS. Also if it was added into your car payments, they should refund you the intrest on it too.

I did call the warranty company, GMPP they told me to call my dealer because they had to cancel it.

I wrote a letter to corporate also, I wanted to tell the guy off.. like the fact I can't use their incompetant service department...

a year ago I had problems with my ecotec and it was idling funky, so I brought in the TSB to have the computer reflashed.. they said they can look them up theirselves.. 8 hours later I got the car back with "no problem found" I couldn't keep wasting 8 hours a day to drop my car off and get it back with no trouble found.. so I had to start researching the problems myself, luckily I have this forum to use

next day I took it to another dealer further away, with the TSB, and they flashed it on the spot for me and it fixed my problem..

I emailed corporate, so Ill see what they say monday..

Thanks..

GMPP is through the dealerships directly. They aren't usually prorated due to the "perks" you are entitled to with GMPP. During your 3/36 warranty, GMPP will cover a rental/loaner car if they are going to have your car for more than a certain amount of time. Can't remember the details, just know it always worked in my favor when my '99 was new. I always just walked in, dropped my keys on the counter, and walked out and got in a rental.
You can always still complain and see if you can get more back.

I was reading the booklet some more, and it says I was entitled to a rental car from the start if it was going to be kept for more than 2 hours for repairs, which everytime it was kept all day by them.. even though the factory warranty had not ran out..

The dealer said "that does't start yet" when I asked about it the last time my car was in for service.. needless to say they didn't honor their end of the bargain..

I'm a call them tommorow if they don't call me.. I work overnights so I usually sleep all day or I'd have called already..

During your 3/36 warranty,

wow thats the American warranty???????
in Canada its 5 years or 100,000 kms. 60,000 bumper to bumper. then the rest is power train. thats the standard warranty here, the extended is like 130,000 kms or something.

hope you get your cash back. it will make a nice down payment on the new ride.
