After only buying my j-body a year ago, its time to cut my loses. It's a great car but resale value as you all ready know isn't just bad on these cars, its horrible. I 've decided to trade in this coming year before i start losing money from the loan i took out to buy the car. The sticker was 19, 280 for my sunfire, loaded. crome tech wheels, dual exhaust, the whole nine and now my o4 sunfire with only 11,000 miles is worth 8,940...... thats crazy... Once again not a bad car but damn...... Im going to buy a new 06 civic si, accord coupe, or scion tc.....

Yeah when you buy one of these things you better be in it for the long haul, cause most cases you don't get any equity in these cars unless you flat out pay cash for it. Good luck in your new car ventures. It was nice knowing you even though this is the first time i have ever heard of you.

All cars depreciate, good luck with the future though. I've only known one guy that breaks even on his cars.He goes to Germany every year, buys a new BMW, imports it, sells it here a year later and gets something new from Germany again. The price of BMW's in Germany is lower than here, so when he sells it here after a year of depreciation, it usually matches how much he payed for it there. If I were only rich...

thanks for the input everyone.. When i trade it in i only want to break even...i don't expect to get any cash towards another vehicle. The car shouldn't lose to much value in the coming year, im takiong it off the road in the winter, i have a blazer so i don't have to put it through the snow, so i'll gustamate that i'll only have 21,000 miles on it when i trade her in, plus i keep all my service records from pontiac, i hope to get top dollar... even if thats low.

The only way to come out ahead on cars that depreciate quickly is to drive them until
they drop. And really, you will only lose money on the car if you trade it in within the first
few years, like you are planning. I have to question your plan to break even by trading in
and buying something else that depreciates, albeit not as quickly.

most j's arnt worth the price the dealerships put them up for but since there dealerships they cant do that

Yeah, its makes you wonder what it cost to make these cars. Considering they put 15 to 19 grand sticker on them and within one year they are worth a little more half that if your lucky........

Bought my 1999 Z24 in March 1999 for $18,000.
Sold it in February 2005 with 95,000 miles on it for $3500 and was told I got too much for it haha.

If you buy the car only for a resale value then tuning and/or moding the cars you own is out of the question. I have a 99 Sunfire 100K I can get a whole $1000 in a trade in but I love the J. As an under rated tuner car it is funny to stomp B series cars into the ground!

Buy used. That way some schmuck has already ate the depreciation. I bought my car brand spankin new. While I'm glad i've been able to treat it exactly as I wanted from day one, I will never buy a new car again.
Thats the reason i bought my 2002 cavalier totaled with only 100 miles on it ffor $1,500
only cost 500 dollars to fix since my dad knows how to do a ton of body work
