Getting Back Into J's - General Forum

Well after almost a year after selling my 02' Fire and going through a few different cars I'm looking to get back into the J scene and do a new project car.
My point in making this post is to get the opinions of you guys/gals on what year/make/model I should go with. I was thinking of going with an 03' Sedan since I've always done Sedans since I first owned a J back in 97'. But I'm looking to do something with a very domestic compact style and not get TOO crazy with the mods and go mostly for cleanliness.
My first thoughs are a 98' Cav Z or a Fire GT. But, I'm also looking at the Eco, so what are some of you guy's experiences on modding the Eco to a stout HP number and remaining driveable?
Suggestions? Opinions?
BTW: Even while I haven't owned J for some time I still kept up with the ORG. So thanks to Dave for keeping this place up and running!

One of my favorite sedans........If you do another, I'm sure it will be done just as tasteful
Eco seems like the new "way to go" as far as performance mods....Tons of things are being developed for these engines and have shown some impressive numbers. I'm a 2.4 person myself and probably always will be
im saying 03-05 sunfire....really good looking cars, and they have the new eco in em
glad to see you back!
if wanting the eco, and since you had the fire before, id have to agree with 03-05 sunfire, unless you can find a 2002 with an eco in it so you still have the older style headlights and such.

But he's looking for a sedan and the 03-05 Sunfire models have no sedans.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ cept if he gets one in canada.....i saw one here in ny the other day with toronto plates
pretty cool
Not unintentionally accelerating since 2009!!!!
I'm not necessarily thinking Sedan as I've done 2 of them already.
Really, I'm looking for some rare or semi-rare options that I won't have to replace in order to have a better looking ride (like the red or blue interiors). I'm looking for a clean start on a project and was wanting some opinions on what would be a good year and model to start with.
And thanks Kris and Joe! Holla!

The main reason I'm considering the late 90's models is because I've found some really sweet deals on low mileage Z24's and GT's.
So you guys really think the Eco's are worth that much more on insurance and per month payments?

well as of right now u can't supercharge the eco, easily anyway....so you could get a 2.4 and supercharge that....mmm...sorry that's all i've been thinking about lately is a supercharger, i want it....BAD.
I'm sure whatever you decide on will be sweet though, I was a big fan of your last fire, that thing was sex on wheels....so good luck with it!

That's what I'm talkin' bout... But you guys know I'm poo when it comes to engine work, hense why the most complex engine work I did my 02 was a TB and header.
Atleast it's narrowed down to NEW and OLD schools...
BTW: Jason! You know I'll push this one to be good enough for your calender again!

Nickesix, two words... DROP TOP. with a 2.4L. thats kindof rare j-body wise.
Welcome back, dude. There's a nice looking silver 2000-2002 4 door Z24 for sale in my town, and I've only ever seen three 4 door Z24's here, so that's kind of rare I guess.

02 fire eh?
I was under the impression that insurance was less on a brand new car. especially if its a low budget new car like a cavy.i Know i pay like...70 bucks a month for my insurance.
i pay 330/month on my 99 Z
freggin ontario insurance on 18 year olds...
