After recieving a large (fist sized) rock straight into the fog light eyelet of my z24 this spring, I opted to perhaps re-think the whole setup all together.
So...
I went to canadian tire... (yeah I know, whatever, 90% garbage) ...to dig up some IDEAS...
And I found these... Halo wrapped Driving lights... these things come right out of the box with a color changing mess of wires, and crap that I quickly
discarded. I decided to pull the multi color LED's out of the lights. In thier place, I built a set of four (4) Neon Blue, w/resistors and loomed them into place. (originally I wanted amber, like the park light, to make it look factory-ish, but I couldnt find a bright enough LED)
I tied the Halo's directly into the leads that power the park lights, since the resistance on the LED's are way low, and the draw amps on the park lights is low aswell (less than 10) it didnt seem to diminish the brightness of the park lamps, and wouldnt *&%$ up the LED's...
Then after modifying the Bracket that the Light came with, and splicing a GM connection block, into the lights wires so it would plug into the stock setup, I installed them into the factory location...
The halos only come on, when I turn on the running lamps... when I turn on the Driving lights, the halos deminish a bit, but the light has 'HID' Bluish Hue to it..
couldnt get any good pictures of that, because the camera is crappy..
The lights were 100.00CDN (after tax) which is a blatent rip off, being that the controller only workes with multi colored LED's and I wish i could just get these parts as blanks...oh well..and most of the price was the wiring.. and relay, and controller...garbage..
What do you think? This mod can be adapted for any color.. i would think.. just needs the high intensity LED's
100.00 and a little soldering, 5.00 for LED's and Resistors, a little inventing, heat shrink tubing, and some wire loom.. connectors
