Nice, whats the price on one?
I dunno if its that nice. Depends on the times it puts down. I'm wondering if the SS guys are gonna do like the GTP guys and take off the S/C and put on a turbo setup. If that happens I wonder if the S/C will fit on a 2.4. That would be interesting.
I've seen the turbo kits for the GTP. Some impressive times. I think it could be the same way with a S/C ss.
cool
s/c should fit(same block etc), but why not turbo

Because if the S/C guys are taking of the S/C to go with a turbo setup you can pick a S/C up cheaper on e-bay.
so its the 2.4l with out the s/c but a 5speed tranni.. thats stupid they should put the s/c on it too from the factory
sweet
time to find a dealer with 1 and drive it
That motor isn't really good for boost or a decent amount of boost. It's running 10.5:1 compression stock. That VVT motor is the PERFECT motor for someone who really wants to do an All motor setup.

its a motor not made for boost.
i think with a few bolts ons they will easily hang and beat the 2.0 sc SS's
but of course the FI car has more potentail.

it's got the same compression as stock 00+ Corollas(as well as the same technology), and people are running 8+PSI on their corollas.

simple 5-6psi setup, no need to over boost it should put down as much power as the 2.0
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
last night...well this mornin i was comin home from a party an saw a silver cobalt...it looked sooooo nice under the lights of the dealership...i stoped an just awed at how nice the body lines an everything looked as it shined
Will the Cobalt SS 2.4 in cloth trim feature the SS embroidery on the seats like the SS Supercharged?

hate to break it to you, but 8PSI is an easy amount for that engine to handle, if it's set up like the Toyota version.

Yeah, I was saying a good amount of boost, but these guys were saying throw a supercharger on from an SS which runs 10 psi. I wouldn't want to risk detonating...

*shrugs*
i don't know enough about the 2.4L engine. i DO know a few toyota guys who are running 15PSI on a stock corolla VVT-i engine, and haven't blown yet(2 year old turbo install).

id toss the s/c on the 2.4 with the 10.5 compression , you just have to use better gas , and ignition system , and pay attention to it not running lean , and detonation
looks good. still in rsx price range.. any engine bay shots?
how much HP is the 2.4 having?

Not exactly low-end grunt monster, but then it makes sense since it is FWD.
This is a recipe strait from Honda. A good recipe to that.
Since it has VVT I don't think it is good idea for boost, unless you can program the boost to work in conjunction with VVT system.
I think it is better suited for N/A.

let's not forget, it helps to have everything installed at once...so the car doesn't have issues from the get go(like some folks around here have noticed with their Ecos...)

Cavalier 1SV 2600lbs and say 145HP, 18lbs per HP.
Cobalt approx. 2900 lbs 172HP, 17lbs per HP - a 6% improvement.
Cavalier TQ is 150 @ only 4000, with 10% less weight to pull.
i just drove a 2.4 ss. helps to have connections at a large volume dealership
i like the styling much more than the supercharged SS. it has a small spoiler instead of the huge wing, and polished 17" rims instead of dark grey 18"s.
upon looking under the hood i see alot of plastic. large plastic acoustic silencer over the whole engine, large plastic air hat over the throttle body which looks restrictive. so in order to see any engine i removed the plastic pieces (very easy to remove with no tools, save for a flathead screwdriver for the TB hat). so i find that the set up is very similar to the 2.0 ecotec, namely the returnless fuel system and coil-on-plug ignition.
so i decided i had enough prodding around the interior and engine bay...time to drive it. i was completely disappointed to find an automatic transmission in it, which had only 3 selectable forward ranges (drive, intermittent, and low)
but i drove on. the engine felt torquey and sounded throaty. it loved to rev quick and pulled hard on the top end like the supercharged model, but not as fast. i also kept in mind that when i got behind the wheel, there was only 3 miles on the car, and it was an automatic slush box. given a 3k mile break in period, and a 5 speed tranny, i think the performance would definitely come to life.
starting at a gms price of $17,100 for a 5 speed (no sunroof, no 7speaker sound system, no onstar or XM, no leather seats) i think its a good deal
i want one
