Pretty fun and nifty install I finished for a friend the other day, figured I'd share.
Just a 2wd leveling kit, I was just pleased with the product and outcome. Removed a few items, dropped the lower control arm, assembly slid out and you install the spacers from there.
Assembly pulled out-
Add this douche-
Yay-
Before-
After-
Talking him into doing tires next. Just going with a simple pre-runner look, as he's now stationed in VA with no real use for 4wd.
^thats what i was thinking.. SLAM THAT BITCH lol
He must not haul anything =P Theres a reason the rear sets higher then the front.
Nah, he's actually got the boat hitched to it right now. However the truck does not carry a load at all times, and while not doing such this increases appearance especially once the wheel/tire combo goes on.
Thanks for the enlightening though! /sarcasm
Is that a cheap ebay piece? Even if not, I would most certainly not use a kit like that. I have seen them fail in glorious fashion on trucks that don't even weigh as much as the Tundra. This is pretty much what a well designed one should look like...
One solid chunk of billet aluminum = zero points of failure (unless you count the bolts themselves). They are typically a bit more expensive, but with a truck that big and expensive, why would you cheap out with something like that?

He actually ordered it from
http://www.fatbobsgarage.com/. They seemt pretty reputable considering a big portion of their business is selling these level kits.
If their products fail they're taking on some major liability producing them.
Here's the
direct link if interested.

You cant be serious...lifted Tundra's look awkward enough, a lowered one...that's not a thought I even want to phantom..
You're missing daves point completely. You see how the one he linked is one solid piece? Now look at the kit you linked. It looks like 3 separate pieces with a small weld on it. Thats what he was talking about.
Toyota in a whole is a reputable company. Didn't they have problems with camshafts? Sure the company might be held liable even if it does go that route but thats a pain in the ass don't you think? Why even risk it? Not to mention if it causes a serious problem while you're driving.
This is why I love this site. I completely understand Dave's point, stop with this whole superior nonsense because your attitude is falling on deaf ears. You have it in your head that billet aluminum owns all and that there's no way a welded steel piece could do it's job. Not going to argue there. I somewhat agree. To imply automatic failure of this piece that I've held and have compared to factory suspension construction is nonsense though IMO. Funny thing is he also looked at solid aluminum coil spacers but wanted to maintain factory ride. Research these, hell search for them, the first website that comes up would be Fat Bob's Garage. Call him and tell him his products are junk, ask about failures, humor me, this wasn't the intent of my post to start a suspension debate with you.
This was a product brought to me by a friend used by many, I helped install, I decided to share.
Enjoy. If it fails and he totals his brand new Tundra and dies you'll be the first person I come praise.
haha we are going to be getting another "im so done with this site" thread from joe joe here soon
I'm contemplating it as we speak! Boohoo, you guys are all @!#$s! I'm out.
. Sadly it would never be that easy, I deal with jackasses everyday and I expect no exception on the internet.
On a serious note for my own education I researched these on numerous Tundra sites last night and this style thus far has been the most commonly used on the '07 and '08 models and when googling for leveling kit failure I found nothing beyond talk of ball joints. Honestly I didn't even come across a solid aluminum 2.5 leveling kit. Now for the bigger lifts I did.
Funny on one site the most commonly used brand is by a company called Top Gunz who ran a GP and this is what the construction and finish of theirs looked like-
.....yeah, uh nothing in comparison to the Fat Bob's pieces I installed quality and construction wise yet very commonly used-
which for those who didn't look at the details feature-
- 1/4" Hot P.O. Steel Plate is precision CNC LASER cut.
- Heavy Wall D.O.M. Pipe for a superior load bearing member to ensure maximum stability.
- Pressed In Studs, where others use welded bolts that lose strength when welded.
- Pulsed Welding produces an aerospace grade weld that is of a much higher quality than the short arc weld found on similar products.
- Powder Coating that has been specially formulated for this product application. Paint just won't cut it!
- LIFETIME WARRANTY
Just sharing what I found. I'm done with it.
who cares, you installed the part, not responsible for what parts he wants installed, but i understand the guys are just looking out
True that.
Despite being 2wd it'd be amazing to get it to this level one day-
I like spending other people's money
.
So its not a cheap ebay piece, that much I can tell very easily from the pics you posted. Thats a good thing. But it still looks like the thing is held together by four 1-2" long welds (can't tell if there is any additional bracing from the pics). I still wouldn't trust it personally, though. I guess I wouldn't worry much about it on the streets, but I would never take that thing offroading. But then, I shouldn't assume a Tundra owner, particularly a 2WD Tundra owner, would go offroading.

i have ones like dave posted......PRG baby
also titans have 3 holes, like pictured......tundras have 4(possibly why they are different)
i agree w/ dave......looks liek it would collapse......but nonethe less looks good
swapped, supercharged, intercooled, 2.9, fun
I won't lie, I doubt it'll see any off-road abuse. Majority of trucks sold now-a-days are due to the image I believe over the actual use. Though he has been using while up here, but just to tow the boat here and there etc.
Yes it was quite comedic when I found those other pictures for comparison sake! Never looked for the eBay ones though but I imagine them being quite similiar to the aboves.
They look stout enough to get the job done. Anything less I would question highly.
But Joe, your dumb ass must have put them on upsaide down....that 2wd now looks like a 4wd....
you had better flip them around
