Anyone Drive/Own a New Malibu?
Tuesday, February 26, 2008 5:19 PM
In the never ending search for a god damn car for my kid sis, we are now looking at Malibu's.

Has anyone driven them with the I4? How about the I4 G6 or Aura? Opinions?

She would only get the I4 because of the cost of gas.

Other considerations;
- G5
- God damn Yaris Hatchback
- Mazda 3 GS

I hate car shopping for women.

Oh, and she doesnt want a W-Body.

God help me I almost smacked her straight across the face when I heard that one ... but her, being a clever one, made sure we were in a public place ...

GF's parents have the new Malibu LTZ, but that's the expensive 200 something hp V6 fully loaded non-sense.

Quality wise though the car really impressed me.

Are you stupid ...?

I already have a 408 en-route from TSP.

Yaris, Malibu, or Miata ... she'll put 420 to the wheels.

I drove a G6 I4 rental through some twisty deserted roads. It is far from fast. It has adequate power, but I found it revving alot in normal driving, and very quick to shift down a gear on the slightest incline, it gets kinda noisey. My trip average was about 9L / 100kms.

I just read Car and Driver's review of the 4cyl malibu. They said something like it is the best 4cyl sedan GM has made to date; eg quiet and smooth. They also said if you are going to buy one to wait until later on this year for the 6speed automatic to come out, instead of the 4spd right now.

i drove one, it was really nice. Interior was awesome even tho it was the base model. I didn't really put it through its paces becuase it was low on gas, but it was extremely smooth and quiet. Let her test drive it, its a pretty damn nice everyday car.

It's a pretty impressive feat, from GM to come up with an attractive car without an interior with bubbly knobs that only a 90 year old could appreciate...

Why not just a used Buick Lucerne, same exact car as the Malibu...but a little cheaper used. And you can get it with a northstar. Just an idea

Buick has that granny-love affair... That no one wants.

I rather have the G6. It is the same car but just sharper looking.

Looks are subject to taste.

Personally I find it so much more appealing then the last Malibu styling of the last ten years, I'd jump it.

Signed the papers this morning for a G5.

2008 G5 SE w/ Drivers package, moon roof, & Remote Start - 36mo lease, $250/mo taxes in.

It is her first car, so she is excited even though it is a G5. I'd prefer if she bought a Yaris ... or even a Malibu ... so I could throw on 22 inch spinners and ball Andre Nickatina cruising 30 under the limit around town ... But such is life.

I work at a dealer and have preped alot af malibus for sale and I will say it is a fine car. The I4 dosen't pack the punch that the V6 does but it gets good milage. The interior is well done but i have a small complaint about the back window a little hard to see out of when backing up. Other then that i think it's one of the nicest cars in its price range.

Even for staunch anti-delta supports such as ourselves ... compared to the Yaris, for the exact same price, the G5 is a whole lot more car.

If this was a purchase or financing issue, we'd probably rock a Civic LX or Mazda3 GS.
