GM has listend to me... AGAIN! lol
General Motors has decided to sell the next-generation Opel Corsa in the United States.
The small car will very definitely go to the United States. Bob Lutz said last week at the Paris auto show. GM plans to badge it as a Saturn.
But it will be awhile before the Corsa arrives. GM has just introduced a redesigned Corsa in Europe, so it will be five years or so before the next-generation Corsa enters showrooms. Because of currency fluctuations, GM would have to produce it in North America. GM is planning for 80,000 to 100,000 units annually.
The Saturn brand already features several Opel-designed cars. The Corsa fits Saturn's image as a brand that features modestly priced, fuel-efficient vehicles.
The next-generation Corsa likely will be about the size of the current one, which is smaller than the Yaris.
GM hasn't chosen a production site yet. But because the low-priced Corsa carries tight profit margins, Mexico seems likely.
Here is the latest version... but this would not be it.

That thing would Boogy with an LS1.
Or an LS6.....
or an LS2.....
or an LS7
LOL
I'm not feeling it though, too small for me
..................Which car will hit 400 whp first???..................
You have to remember this is a lot better then the Aveo.
GM of N-A would destroy the Korean sub-compact market!
Diesel options (if it passes emissions)
1.6L Turbo with 190HP
And no, no LSx option.
We'll leave Jinxed for that one.

so saturn is going to be the north american opel i take it?
not that that is a bad thing
it's not bad really
make a chevrolet version to replace the aveo is something i bet they will also do because by then the aveo will be pretty out of date.

Saturn in my opinon is known as GM's bitch. It seems like if a car does well with saturn, they produce it for Chevy and/or pontiac.
dan
i like the current 1 , i think a turbo 3.8 and rwd would make a bitch'n drag or drifter
do u say 190 hp,
that lil thing would move with that kinda go juice
Don't steal, the government doesn't like competition
thats pretty damn nice. 190 hp turbo would be a very nice engine for that thing. i could also se them throwing in the 1.5 or what ever it is now in the aveo/wave.
its nice to see saturn actually getting some cars to sell other than having just the old sl/sc's.. hell that brings them up to what... 6 different vheicles now:
the aura, the relay, the vue and the ion, the sky and now this thing. the have come a long way.
Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!
It's been hinted, the nex gen Corsa will also be made in the VXR flavour. If so, it will most likely use the X16LET turbocharged motor, so around 160-170bhp. It could also possibly get the 2.0 16V turbo found in Astra VXR. This one, on the other hand, makes 240bhp stock.
Goodwrench, how reliable are the Euro fuel economy tests? Assuming they're not using the EPA's bull@!#$ out-to-lunch standards, this thing will be sweet...
From Vauxhall's website
Here:
1.0L I3 60hp 65Lb/ft - 38.7 city, 61.4 highway
1.2L I4 80hp 81Lb/ft - 36.7/60.1
1.4L I4 90hp 92Lb/ft - 36.2/58.9
1.3L I4 Diesel 75hp 125Lb/ft - 48.7/
72.4
1.7L I4 Diesel 125hp 207Lb/ft - 45.6/70.6
NOTE: all fuel economy numbers are listed in miles per
Imperial gallon. to get MPG(US gallon), multiply by 0.833.
I don't know about anyone else here, but a car that is smaller than the current crop of subcompacts, with 15 more hp and nearly double the torque that gets 59 miles to the US gallon makes me all warm inside.
"i promise we won't get drunk, and go out in boat in the dark, stand up in the boat and fire the gun into the air unless we have life jackets on."
^^They're more reliable then ours.... meaning more realistic. No ballon-footing here.
Here is an update on this.
GM sources say GM is planning a new platform for small cars with worldwide annual volume of 1.4 million cars. The platform, called Gamma inside GM, will provide mechanicals for the next Opel Corsa and Chevrolet Aveo starting in 2009.
Final decisions have not been made, but GM is looking at producing Gamma variants in Korea, China, Thailand, India, Germany, Mexico and Venezuela. Cars also may be assembled on the Gamma platform in eastern Europe.
Gamma's global reach is a big step forward in GM's campaign to build more units using a few common platforms. In the past, GM's world-car strategy has been undermined by regional managers who demanded costly changes to their versions.
Huge global platforms such as Gamma favor global suppliers that have factories in all major markets. The world cars also generate more work for small suppliers in low-cost countries such as China and India, where much of the production will take place.Badges will run the gamut from Daewoo in Korea to Chevrolet in the United States and China to Opel in Europe.
The Gamma purpose is to have a common platform which will integrate Daewoo and Opel models. Cars from the new platform will succeed cars made on two platforms now, one from Daewoo and a second developed by Opel and Fiat during their now-defunct alliance.
The current platforms account for the Daewoo Kalos, Matiz and Gentra, the Chevrolet Aveo and the Opel Corsa, Tigra and Meriva.
In the United States, a Gamma car would replace the Aveo, which is a rebadged Daewoo.
Engine sizes on the models will range from 1.2 liters to 1.8 liters, with both gasoline and diesel versions.
The platform was developed at GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co. in Korea, another sign that GM is eager to move some engineering-intensive work to low-cost Asia, away from Europe and North America.
A short version of the platform also will be built too.
Cars from the short platform probably will be assembled in Korea, India, Poland and China.
They also will be assembled from kits in Columbia, Venezuela and Vietnam.
GM announced plans this year to invest $300 million in a new Indian assembly plant with a 140,000-unit capacity. That plant will start producing the short-wheelbase Gamma in 2009.
