General Motors will give Pontiac an entry-level coupe as a stopgap measure until the division gets more brand-focused products. In the process, Pontiac dealers will lose the Montana SV6 minivan.
The coupe will be a high-performance relative of the Chevrolet Cobalt coupe with some Pontiac influences. The vehicle will give the Buick-Pontiac-GMC channel a shot at the small-car market. GM is still considering names for it. One option might be the G5, sources say.
Pontiac intends to launch the coupe as a 2007 model and likely will start production this fall in Lordstown, Ohio. The car will be priced similarly to the Chevrolet Cobalt SS.
Pontiac eventually will lose the Montana SV6 minivan, which has seen sluggish sales and does not fit Pontiac's performance-brand image. U.S. sales of the SV6 for January fell to 1,450 units, an 11.5 percent drop from 1,638 in the year-ago period.
Pontiac has lacked an entry-level car since the Sunfire died last year.
In Canada, GM sells a Cobalt sibling called the Pontiac Pursuit.

Well, the pursuit does look a lot better than the cobalt by far, so I'd rock it. The Ion is still my fav delta platform vehicle.. Pretty obvious, since I bought 2 of them.. lol.

Let me tell you, I went to the Auto Show that was just in my area...I opened the ash tray and the thing fell out onto the floor. I was like "what a cheap POS" and its was a Cobalt SS...changed my mind about it and the fact that the dash was a plastic heaven. Wouldn't expect that from a $20k car. Needless to say, I wont be getting one.
i actually like the pontiac nose on the prsuit better than the cobalt
hopefully they will share enough that youll be able to swap parts with the cobalts

you do realize that 99.9% of the car at those shows , are BEAT TO HELL
people let their kids run through them like its a play ground , and most adults even play in them , and the young kids usually break alot of stuff in them on purpose
dont let the cars at the shows reflect the actual car youd be getting
it was on the news today that it will be called the G5, i live 3 minutes from lordstown so anything that goes on there is a big news story for this area its coming out in the fall as a 2007 model

The cars at auto shows get more ass the all the hookers in Vegas do. I wouldn't let that be a decideing factor for you slug. Who knows maybe a 10 year old kid ripped it out the day before.

O I know that but still...I was really considering getting a purple Cobalt SS 2.4 but next car will either be a Scion tC or Pontiac Torrent...wasn't just the ashtray that bothered me, it was the fact that it looked cheaply made and I didn't like the rear visibility (more so the lack thereof).
