She's Back...
Thursday, September 11, 2008 5:59 PM
I heard this clunking almost 2 months ago, coming from the transmission area...

Turns out I annihilated my ring gear and one of the gears on the 1-2 gear set and the spider gears in the differential. After almost 2 months of being down, a transmission from Matt Linke and about 6 hours of work she lives again.

More pics soon as I stop shaking from the excitement of the car being back on the road again .

well it was fast when I was riding in it working well, and 2 sec later when it was broke lol..

I feel like it was my fault since he was showing me how fast it is with the new dual valve springs ( which made a huge difference ) and then Snap ...

Oh well.. its fixed now, ill be up soon for a tweak and another ride and pics ?

How many other people have had this problem??
I am on my 3rd diff already in 69k miles!!!!!!

This is only my 3rd trans and only the second diff. It would only be my 2nd trans had I known how to rebuild them a few years ago when I broke a shift fork. That's about 70,000 miles of me pounding the crap outta it. This is only the first time I've blown a diff. Considering driving habits and power going through the trans, I'd say 70k is pretty damn good. So what if I have to do this every 4.5 years to me it's worth it to have a car that I actaully like and enjoy.

Brad - LMAO!!! I seriously laughed for a good minute after reading this.

As promised more pics...

Fetter - I've thought about it, but like I said, it took 70k of me beating the ever living crap out of it, if I get half of that I'll be just fine. A trans every 2 years is managable and acceptable for me.

Anthony - I'm pretty sure this has been a time bomb just waiting to explode for some time. Remember that "strange" noise from the first time you had ever been in my car? I think that was the orginal sign that something wasn't quite right.

I'm thinking what happened is when I replaced the trans a few years back and put the diff w/ insert outta my factory trans I didn't align the cases properly or didn't put the bearing in correctly that sits on the 1-2 gear set and eventually it was going to fail. It just so happened it wasn't completely catastrophic and I could still drive it home and a couple "joy" rides around the country side.

Been there with a Getrag already. I keep a spare diff around just in case. Only good thing about the Getrag is that the diff is easy to replace.
