Edit: AH SONFA BEEOTCH.... this was suppose to be in Exterior. Someone move please?
Well.... When I first looked under my car it really didn't look bad at all. So I was hoping it was going to be a quick fix, but no... this whole eco and 5 speed swap is turning out to be a money pit and headache and with my poor ass college self. So if it takes a couple years, then so beat it. My car should outlast itself before all this work... So anyways, once I started hitting everything with a wire wheel there was spots that looked completely fine but where in the pre-rust forming stages with the paint not being secured was flung off.
I had started to undercoat the car before, then stopped and realized it wasn't the right way to approach this, so a lot of the reddish brown you see in the pics towards the front is just some residue left over from that. But every single body spot weld had this issue with starting to rust...
What I am doing to stop this now that I have ground all the rust off....
I am going to seal everything with POR-15, then go by like 6 cans of the 3m undercarraige rubberized coating and spray it on top of that. I am going to do all the way out to the very bottoms of my rocker panels before it turns upwards and can be seen w/o side skirts on. Since my skirts cover the other portion anyways and still look mint. My last order from POR-15 just came in today, I was waiting on a quart of Marine clean and a quart of Metal ready.
I should have this updated with the finished results sometime this weekend..... if i don't run out of the quart of POR-15 I have.
So yea, this is why NY sucks major ball sac in the winter with the excessive salt usage.

is to store the car over the winter.
That would help tremendously.
Its been stored for the past 3 years, and hasn't even seen rain or a water car wash because I have been trying to keep moisture off of her
It will never see a winter again in its life, at least not while she is with me. But I am with you on the whole pouring heart and soul into this car.
She's a 1999 and will be 10 years old next year. I will have owned her for 8 years out of her life so far.
40K original miles too
Just be careful. The wood on the jack stands are WAY more slippery then you think.

perry... shaddup.
cody's car im sure is in much better condition. my car has almost 100k on the clock and ive only owned it for about 8000 miles of its life. mine doesnt have any rust but the undercarriage leaves much to be desired.
on a side note, cody... what'd you do with the brake lines, fuel lines etc that runs along the bottom???

Brakes lines and fuel lines are in the trash can outside, along with the metal fuel tank... all bent and folded up. I have a complete set from an 03 sitting next to the car with zero rust on those and they will be making it onto my car. I am going to scotch brite those and give them a fresh coat of paint so they won't rust out if I get stuck driving the car in the rain ever.
This has been one of the biggest obstacles of this car's tear down.
damn still not done yeeeeesh fail!!!

x2 good luck getting everything back together!
Ok, 6 hours later on thursday I finished applying 2 coats of the POR-15. It was really hard to second coat because everything is gloss black and you can't see what was painted and what wasn't. So after curing for 2 days, i see a couple spots in which are going to get a 3rd covering because i see a white spot that shouldn't be there....
Onto pics....
1 Quart of Marine clean.
1 Quart of Metal ready.
2 Quarts of POR-15 in which I am going to use on the trailing arm and engine sub frame now since this @!#$ is harder than powder coating.
1 Can for show of what is going over the POR-15 to get rid of all that gloss....
and my Fan finally showed up for the Griffin Radiator...
... Oh and when the directions call to wear gloves and you ignore them. Umm... I am still trying to get black off my arms, and hands. This @!#$ is crazy...

Cody you might want to wear gloves with the POR-15.
Looking good bud.
Lookin good man, and at least your arms will be rust free.
very nice cody, glad to see you getting it done. question did you remove a exhaust sheild underneath the car? i noticed mine has a peice of formed sheet metal spot welded in as a heat sheild al lthe way through the center of the car where the exhaust sits. is urs not have one or did you remove it.
here you can see what i am talking about
anyway looking good man. How was it to brush on? does it look decent or hard to get smooth?
how did you appy that stuff? air paint gun?
Stephen - I yanked it off when I did my exhaust install as it was just falling apart due to rusting out... I only left the portion around the gas tank for obvious reasons.
I brushed all of that on by hand.
ahh i need some of that and lots of rubber gloves.
looking good Cody... looking good. glad to see you're being so thorough.
I can't wait for the re-assembly.
