american craftsmanship at its best!!

ok...this is how a seat should NOT break!!!!

i went to replace the reclining mechanism, since it wouldnt click all the way up, and i was holding myself up with the steering wheel, or sitting so far back, i looked like a wigger.

i remove the upholstery, and what do i find???

don think there was an argument
but i think it was more of a crappy piece of metal than your weight being the problem

i did. i got a 03 ls coupe's seat, so i didnt even have to remove the upholstery. i put the top of my seat, with the recliner mechanism from the coupe (cut off the little tab in the back to slide it forward), on the bottom of the coupe's seat. works perfect now. rain held out for literally JUST enough time to get it done yesterday. once i bolted it down, and sat in it, it started POURING. i was like FINALLY SOME LUCK!!!

ive seen alot of seats do that , my step dad killed several in a couple fords he had , and a metro vert , and a v'dub

best i can say to why it happens , its from leaning in the back of the , and putting pressure on the top of the seat back trying to get comfy in the seat or getting something outta your pocket

pretty much when you push on the top of the seat back , it puts a major lever on to the weak spot , and then you end up with what you got there

it doesnt matter if your light or heavy , it will happen either way , but the heavier you are the easier it is for this to happen , because you put more weight on the lever increasing the force on the weak spot

good thing is the seat bottom is easy to find at the junk yards
