Well the other day me and Jeffie (Satchmoe) were talking and he was saying how he could get rid of some crap in my car for a little bit more weight reduction, FREE MOD!
Basically I told him that I wanted weight reduction and still having the stock interior look.
Today me and him went at it...
Removed driver side seat
Removed passenger side seat
Lifted rear seat
Jeffie taking out the center console
Jeffie showing off the insulation
Jeffie removing the insulation under the carpet
Yay! No insulation!
Jeffie has conquered the insulation
The crap behind the rear panels
Removing trunk carpet
Jeffie cut himself...Samantha was putting up a fight...
This is all the crap we took out...
Ahh...and the goal completed.
probably this weekend me and him are going to work on some more stuff we can remove, I'll post pics when we do.
The Results: I was suprised to notice a difference. I can defenitley notice that taking off from a stop was easier and cruising I didn't need to put much gas to it and it was pulling better. The insulation removal didn't really make my car much louder on the inside.
It was worth the time and effort...only took about 2 hrs to do everything. Thanks Jeffie for the help!

next step carbon fiber doors
Oh man...You done an excellent free mod..Wish I had someone to help me out to do that...because I'd probably screw something up in a minute.

looks good, jeffie you should come out to sinstersJs again
NJHK you too
Wha tabout removing all the insulation and then spraying the interior with bed liner. A very thing coat would way pratically nothing and would reduce alot of noise.
What ya think N?
I don't need no stinking SIG. Wait this is one.
DOH!

LOL
always getting cut jeFFie
plus i still owe you for that not really funni trick you did to me at ritas! you fn troll!
GOT ECOTEC?
^^ How much did it weigh? Couldnt be more than 20 lbs by the look of your pile there. What about the added noise from lack of sound deadner and increased inside temperatures? Seems like not enought to make a difference. added noise=deception of a faster car. Wouldnt it be just as effective to just go on a hardcore diet for the amount of weight you saved?

wrong the grand total was between 60 and 80 lbs spare, jack, and all the insulation and all the trash he had laying in the damn thing

The added noise is nothing big. Yes, it did make a difference. As far as temperature, I doubt it will be a big deal.
Guys, this is only the first stage...we are going to do some more little stuff to get rid of some weight and we'll post pictures.

Youre going to need it for teh upcoming challange hehe.... Dont worry... I keep in my full interior for you.. lol j/k. Cool that you can feel a difference tho..
Till the hood comes off, till the gas runs out, Till my legs give out, can't shut my mouth, Till the smoke clears out - am I high? Perhaps
I'ma boost this @!#$, till the rods collapse
if we just expand our minds a little, your almost back to stock, if you consider the kit and other stuff youve added... i dunno, if you wanna reduce weight, dont add stuff that makes the car heavier...especially if your gonna go an take out insulation that doesnt weight more then 5 pounds...

Yes, I know that other things add weight but I am willing to sacrifice it and keep my kit and spoiler but why not reduce weight in other places? If I was all gun-hoe about having no weight, you would see one seat, no dash, no carpet, no kit etc...but I'm not. This was just a little experiment and didn't cost anything but gas to get to his house.
Guys, you need to stop acting like I'm trying to drop 500 lbs, I'm just doing some little stuff and if it helps, it helps.

cant say i would have done that
-Borsty
taking that out really wont do much but make it a lil louder in the interior from all the road noise...
Borsty wrote:cant say i would have done that
x2, for the small difference, its not really worth it in my eyes. But you accomplished the goals you set out to do, thats what matters.
I would want to think that the foam insulation would be good to keep in, atleast for an accident, its better than raw metal being punched through the plastic and carpeted doors etc, But thats my opinion. From what ive seen, Sunfires tend to be better sound insulated than the Cavalier's ive test driven (atleast mine is). As for the weight issue, like you said, but not worth the effort for me. I can barely get the rear deck out yet alone tear the interior up.
