Sunfire Vert. Tonneau cover / Opinions Please
Wednesday, August 10, 2005 9:35 AM
Need some opinions on whether to continue with this project or scrap it before I get to deep. Thinking about deleting the rear seat and fiberglassing 2 subs and my nitrous bottle in that area. So I was thinking why not make a fiberglass tonneau cover over it. Hinged in the back with an electric actuator to raise it and show off the setup.

Also what would look better Paint the sub box to match the car and upholster the cover to match the seats OR the other way around???

This was the angle that made me unsure...

I know it's a rough idea but didn't want to waste alot of time if it'll look like crap...

I actually love the idea!

I think it will defenatly look bad ass, if the tonneau cover and the sub box was painted the same color as the car, and maybe with some ghost flames on it as well.

Great idea!

Sorry about the second post.

Would the top go up and down with it in?

Ya the top still works fine I just had to set the plywood down in the well a little to be able to get the hard corner covers on and off.

I think painting both might be a little much.

Thanks for the input so far...

might want to check around, i think for me anyway they look a bit high, maybe do it so your seats are a few inches higher then the top of it. i just think once you fiberglass it, they are going to be a bit big looking compared to the car.

I love your idea! DO IT! Also I thought of adding a couple of roll bars or something like that from Audi TT Roadster.

yea definitely a great idea, but i'd make it lower
especially from the side angle it looks way too big...

hmm im unsure because the cover for the top is up so high off the car
i think it all depends on how you make the part behind the seats flow with that
id paint the top the color of the car as you see all covers like that the car color, and would also make it easier to clean

dude that would look sooooo sweet...the roll bars would be a good addition along with some seats out of like a s2000 or solstice/sky to compleat the roadster look

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'll try to get one of the pods glassed tonight or tomorrow. Maybe then you can get a better look.

Right now the pods are 7.5" high and about 2" below the top of the seats. I think it's just a little hard to get the prospective right with just a few camera shots.

^ Agreed!

With the level of skill/craftsmanship you've shown throughout the rest of the car, I'm sure this will be a nice task for you, with a great outcome!

The 'pods' look like they sit way too far back away from the seats. Looks like they're a good 10" or so?? Cut that down to about 5" and it'll look a lot better IMO. Def paint the tonneau to match the car, and upholster the box/etc to match the inside of the car. And if you really want to blow people away, upholster the bottom side of the tonneau to match the interior lol.

Good work so far, it's definetly gonna be sweet.

Heres my veiw on it.

I think its an awsome idea, and if done right will look incredible!

My first thought when I was looking at the pictures was that maybe you should put some bars like on the TT as shown above. But I don't think your car would pull them off properly.

The pictures were looking good, until I saw the last one, the one that made you skeptical as well. It jsut dosen't look right to me. I think the way to make it look right woudl be to rais it up and have it cover the top when tis down. Like make it go over the existing tonneau cover. Sort of liek on the Vettes. Of cource it won't come out jsut liek the Vette because you have a lot more room there. But I think it would just look so much better with the tonneau cover going from behind the seats (like you have it with the pods there) and going all the way back and over the roof when its dropped.

thats just my 2 cents...

But I will be looking for progress pics! I'm sure how ever you do it, it will look sexy

Maybe its because he wants his seats to still be able to scoot back farther if nessesary.
