Okay, so heres the 03-05 Sunfire Dash Removal How-to. I hope all you fire-drivers appreciate this. Well, really, it matters not, its not all that difficult but at least we have a how-to for US; damn cavy drivers
Tools You Will Need:
1) Philips Screwdriver
2) Standard (Flathead) Screwdriver
3) 9/32 Socket
4) Three bottles of water and a pot of coffee I hate Vegas heat!
If any of the above are motorized, like mine was, life is a beautiful thing my brother!
Okay, lets get this show on the road. Do the steps in any order you wantyoull figure out that you missed something when the dash feels like its fighting back! And P.S. the images are rather large it will help you plus if you dont have anything better than Dialup you suck.
One other note, I had my dash removed by GM Certified Technicians and it looks like Im missing a bolt and a screw so check these two spots because on mine it was empty. Spot One is to the right of the steering wheel and left of radio. Second is above and to the right of the fuse box on the drivers side should/might have an arm attached to it. Please let me know what you have there IF ANYTHING!
Step One: I started at the glove box removing all three screws you see circled in red. And, yes, you have to take the radio bezel off because its holding the little L piece in place which we will tackle soon.
After those three are off, remove radio bezel, and then unscrew the brass bolt, shown below (its in between the left most two screws on above image (but under the initial plastic trim!).
Now lets roll on over to the right side of the glove box (side facing the door). Unscrew that lonely little screw and remove that side panel. Its held on by a clip and some Velcro just pull out from the bottom and away from dash.
After shot of what it looks like..and go ahead and remove the metal L shaped thing that is bolted down and put it aside.
Step Two: Move on over to the drivers side and remove the side panel where your fuses are
Now remove the brass bolt - I believe this step is needed.I dont know dont think it is.. do it anyhow because I did!
Step Three: Now move your butt up to the center vent/defroster and pry little puppy out its not gentle, dont worry. Use your flathead for this. I hope no picture is required for this step although I did take one email me if you really need it. Next lets unbolt these black bolts that were hidden under the center vent.
Step Four: From there I was able to remove that plastic piece that fits ever so nicely between the dash and the window. You might be able to remove it before now, go ahead and try!
It has some sticky foam on the back, try not to rip it or tear it off, I think you might want that later on prevent creeks, and a more solid stick. There is no trick to really getting the piece off just go along the inside edge (the edge closest to you) with your thumb or index finger popping the metal tabs out of their place, theres like 5 of them or so. Dont quote me on that figure!
Step Five: There should be 8 total bolts exposed. Err, I kind of forgot to keep track after this point I was so excited, but there should be a few black bolts along the edge of where that plastic piece was and then two brass bolts right behind the airbag along the same edge as the black ones. The blue square is about where the two brass ones are. If you have one of those short handle ratchets with the 9/32 attachment, it will go much quicker getting those brass ones off. Trust me. (The other two bolts are on the outer edges closest to each door!)
Step Six: You are about done, just starting removing the dash. Simply, just pull up from the rear then lift slowly bringing the front up. Next, just slide it to the right (towards passenger side door) and viola! It will help if you put your steering wheel tilted all the way down.
And for everyones viewing pleasure, Me, with the dash piece. Next time you see it, it should have a fresh new carbon-fiber wrap. This only took 45 minutes, and it was first try/attempt. So, just dive on in and rip the fire up. Peace!
Any criticism, or bitches probably wont be listened to, but if you have a nice thing to say, say it. If you have a question ask If you dont for some reason want to post it, PM or email me, Im pretty quick on response times. If you are in the Vegas area I might even help if you need it costs required will be Pizza, Mmmm!
(If you would like the word doc, same thing just different format - easier to view on laptop unless you have wireless internet please PM or email me, I'll send it.)
Good luck all!
