I sounds clip would be really helpful.

did you replace the axles or hub bearings ?

Axles, yes, couldn't get the Isuzu ones to match up.
Did you ever find out what this noise was. I just got done putting in the LSD, spec stage 3 clutch, and alum flywheel. I am getting a noise also when coasting in gear and in the higher rpm's. Its not a grinding noise, it sounds like a vibration to me. The trans shifts great, the clutch grabs, the slave is still working, i am at a loss here. I have checked the Fluid (mobile 1 atf) twice and there wasnt any shavings. I have already dropped the trans twice trying to figure out what is going on. When installing the lsd is something suppost to be lubricated? Is there a way not to put it back together properly? All i did was crack the case, take the diff out, put the lsd in, and put the case back together.
Its a pretty common noise..... I get it in all of my cars that have the prothane trans mounts...... more so in my getrag though. Its just gear noise, from what I can tell.
then again, I havnt heard your noise, so I cant say.

Yeah i think its just gear noise...we just got done taking the trans out again...Still no shavings!!! Still have about 200 miles on the break in and then its go time. The clutch still looks good. Hopefully i can make it to the track and see how the lsd does. Hope to have about 2.0 60'!! Thanks Brian

I have checked the Fluid (mobile 1 atf)
Umm im just guessing that ATF belongs in an Automatic tranny, not a manual. When i resealed the 5-speed on my old grand prix i had to go to the dealer and get special GM syncomesh gear oil for it. That was fun, the dealer could get it, but didnt have the part number and Autozone had the part number, but couldnt get it.
Granted ATF could be the proper lubricant for the Getrag(i have never worked on one, yet), but it just doesnt seems like it would have the right viscosity to protect the gears.

^^^ this guy has it right.
now im not saying this is your case chad... but, when i swapped grease in my izuzu i used royal purple sythetic in it and the damn tranny serious sounded BAD, a lot of the time it sounded like an old 60's school bus lol, whinning to all hell and making grinding noises etc, not to mention it went it gear hard as hell ESPECIALLY reverse.
said F this and found out i needed that gm syncromesh (thank you
). went to the dealer and got some, drained out the royal purple and put in the syncromesh and it cured the issue almost immediatly.
My Isuzu was making a grinding noise on deceleration because the spider gears in the diff had been worn down. This was associated with the chunks and such like you mentioned. I'd say best way to check that is to pull out the VSS as it tends to attract all that crap, if that's what's happening.
Transmission Fluid Check
Important: Inspect the fluid level only when the engine is off. Ensure the vehicle is level. The transaxle must be cold.
Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
Remove the level check plug.
Verify that the fluid is up to the opening.
Perform the following porcedure if no fluid is visible:
4.1. Lower the vehicle.
4.2.
Add GM Dexron III Transmission Fluid, or equivalent, to the level check opening until the level check opening begins to leak fluid.
4.3. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
This is from gm service info. The getrag takes dexron III.

Ok so it does call for ATF, maybe switching to the Dexron will take away the getrag noise? I presonally wouldnt trust ATF im my manual tranny, but if its what the manufactor says is suppose to be in there i guess i'll use it.
If GM service info calls for Dexron III then where are people finding the info about the syncromesh fluid? This noise is really annoying, I'd like to get it taken care of.
yeah what fluid did you use to fill the tranny because im sure anything other than that could have an effect on the trans lubrication system. If your using a different fluid there could be some issues and your saying its getting worse have you sampled the fluid again?
