I haven't heard of anyone reinforcing them, however I have heard of the Bullet proof T3T4... im pretty sure there is a post about it around here.... Its got new bands and bearings and what not.

There's not much you can reinforce. You can put in stronger/ better holding clutch packs, an lsd, and general rebuild. That with an autotrans or b and m to increase line pressure.

I have never built one. I do have a built 4T65E though. Some of my transmission magazines have ads for larger clutch packs and kits for re-doing the valvebody with larger acculmators. You probably could install larger diameter bearings so they spin slower. Could look into clutches with different patterns. The pattern on the clutch determines how it shifts.

You know what? Does anyone know if it is possible to get a 4T65 diff into a 4T40? Never looked into it.

Sometimes if you just cruise sites you will come up with troubleshooting guides that will tell you what to do. "Oh, this part commonly fails go to sonix and order part# ...." Their suggestion is usually better than GM's.

Sorry, I can't think of an exact link but try reading this:

my 4/a isint fairing to well behind the boosted 2.4. appeanrtly you can get better clutchpacks and higher stall for it. and ofcourse the shift + / interceptor. i have the shift + & a cooler on mine now. the 2 - 3 shift under wot w/ boost = slippin to rev limiter (7k) if i have it 4th and roll on the throttle enough to make some boost but not downshift itl slip like mofo. im just swappin a 5 speed in next week cuz i mnto going to battle the auto. In defense of the strengh of these trannies.... mines got somewhere north of 200 k of nothing but pure abuse. id say its held up well.

there are adapter plates for putting the 4L60( what the 3800 gtp cars have) into the jbody
The place is called Bates engineering they supplied the parts for the Phase5 cobalt and the Ladwig sunfire. I tried to call Bates about if you can keep your accesories such as AC heater and power steering sent them email they never got back to me.
the install is also sport compact GM book they show the new mounts for the motor andtrans also they show the plate and the adapters and axels needed. I saw in once in a post hahnracecraft was thinking of doing this conversion on one of ther cars
there is a company called engineered performance that has a rebuilt 4t40e 's with performance stuff in them.

In regards to the 4T65 and 4T40 diffs they are not interchangeable. The pinion gears have opposite helixes. I build 4T65's for the Chevy Cobalts racing in the NHRA and NOPI and we are starting to do some work on the 4T45's. We have one out there waiting to be tested in a 500+hp car right now. If you guys can be patient there may be stuff available by this time next year, ex. chain and sprocket ratio's, improve internal hardware, and final drive ( with a better overall ratio).

my 40t40e might be slipping at rev limiter also, i think it also could be a misfire but since im puttin down soem decent power i think that it could be the tranny now, seems like it goes to rev limiter and bounces off type deal, hard to explain.

Yeah I am on my third 4t40e . . i had a Saturn LS 4t45e trans and swapped out all the parts to the 4t40e casing to bolt to the ld9. Also had the Yank torque converter put on it along witha external trans cooler from jegs and the auto trans interceptor shift kit. That trans would have been great but something inside failed and caused slipping after 200 miles and three trips down the track. On 6 psi she pulled a 14.0 flat with a 2.0 60' time on 17" nitto 450s. Instead of me diving back into it I found another 4t40e on ebay with 20k on it for 120 dollars. Shipping was 150 but hey for 300 dollars to have a 20k trans was good enough for me. I kept the yank converter out of it and kept it stock. It has lasted so far and i figure if I can get one season out of a 4t40e i am doing ok. Curently at 10+ psi so we will see what happens when I am track abusing her.

nice man, i just took my car out to see if it was still messing up and its fine today, might have been the heat and the power messing it up, gonna put a trans cooler on it and change the fluid and should be ok, this sound like it would help it?

use some good synthetic fluid like Royal Purple or Mobil 1 synthetic ATF is what I used. Get a decent size trans cooler and hopefully your car will make it through the summer. But if its allready slipping, the damage could be done allready . It will only get worse from there. It is a PITA to change the tranny out or rebuild it. good luck man.

i think im gonna put a trans cooler on it before i waste money on the fluid change since i might need a new trans or just replace the clutches in it. will the auto trans shift kit help it from slipping also?

yes very much . But then when you turn down the shift kit , it will really slip bad. Just leave it up all the time. Not to 100% but at least half. That will make it shift nice and hard too. Your car will feel alot faster too. lol
