So what would the total cost be around if you were to do it urself and if you were going to have a shop do it? Are we talking like 2 grand, maybe? I really want to get this done but I don't think its worth it when my car is prob only worth like 9 grand

Okay since we have the tranny swap gurus here, I have a swap question as well.

Here's the background:

I have a 2200 5-speed, my sister-in-law has a 2.2 auto, it's old and tired.

I bought an ecotec auto to go in my car, but It's going to get a 5-speed before it goes in.
So now I have my old 2200 which is still quite good. I want to put it in her car, but she doesn't drive stick.

So my question is: Will the 2.2 Auto tranny work with the 2200?
